poor aggy

espn recruiting rankings nationwide:
0 qb
2 rb = #4 (christine michael, the pride of their class, and a good one), #95
2 wr = 35, 51
1 te = 32
3 ol = 23, 77, 167
1 k = ur

1 de = 143
3 dt = 18, 38, 103
6 olb = 64, 70, 71, 77, 85, 89
0 ilb
4 cb = 26, 29, 35, juco
s = 67

4 ath = 46, 76, 106, 116

28 total

espn's rankings are arguably bs, but still an indicator of how hard aggy will have to squeeze 'em for awhile before Shermie will turn it around in Collieville.

If Texas A&M made a movie about their recruiting over the past few years they'd need to get Wes Craven to direct it.

The Ags got 13 of the Hou Chronicle's Top 100, compared to UT's 14 and OU's 11.

So they did well in Texas.

Rivals ranks A&M as having the 7th best overall RB recruiting class with Michael and Guyton. I don't know how they do it year in and year out. Do these guys not look at what else is already there, coming in with them and what the program has done lately?

again, the difference between espn, rivals, the hou chron, etc.

guyton ranked 95 by espn, 46 by rivals
jonathan stewart 64 olb espn, 18 ilb rivals
rhontae scales 167 og espn, 36 ot rivals
etc.

rivals rates aggy #22 overall

time will tell....

For a quick and dirty. Below is the 4-yr average star rating (as per Rivals) for A&M and Texas players committed. The weighing is based on seniors counting for more, while incoming freshman have much less weight. So, for 2005, the weighting includes the 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 classes, and which the 2002 class was more heavily weighted than the 2005 class.

…......A&M UT
2005 3.13 3.72
2006 3.09 3.59
2007 2.98 3.52
2008 3.06 3.58
2009 2.94 3.62

According to this, the gap between Texas and A&M will be even wider this year, if that's even possible. Good times.
Also of interest is this year will be our "most talented" since the 2005 Nat Champion team.

If you want to talk about disparity in rankings...William Campbell, commit to Michigan, is a 5-star by Rivals at DL....But is ranked the 21st OL by ESPN. That is quite a difference.

for someone who needed offensive line help they struck out!

The Ags do have some problems not addressed by this class.
Just my opinion, but on recruiting, I'll take ESPN over rivals any day of the week.

Liucci was on ESPNU this afternoon spinning their class.

This morning 1560 The Game had some aggy recruiting guy on who was also spinning and mentioned they were getting a surprise from some "good" punter. John and Lance found that quite humorous and made fun of it the rest of the show.

The thing is, it's not a bad class in the truest sense, and it does give the Shermanator some tools to work with next season. He's also shown he's willing to play underclassmen if they can perform.

The problem is, with the possible exception of Michael, there's nobody that makes you go "Whoa, aggy's on the way back." The class could have also been better if aggy didn't lose some verbals to other schools.

If agricultural the next two years can improve on this class, they might be on the road back to becoming at least mediocre. The problem is...who are they gonna out-recruit among us, okie, and LSU...and now, even Baylor and Tech? It strikes me that unless a player's born into an aggy family, there's no way he wants to be part of aggy "traditions". aggy...putting the "cult" back in agriculture.

Sherman better find a decent QB, and start signing good OLinemen, or those RBs aren't going to do much good. I'm not convinced Jerrod Johnson is the answer, though I'm sure that wouldn't sit well with him.

The class is about what Fran had been pulling in. To me, here are the players who will amount to something:

Christine Michael (RB)
Hutson Prioleau (TE)
Brandel Jackson (WR)
Stephen Barrera (OT)
Patrick Lewis (OC)
Jonathan Stewart (LB)
Andrew Weaver (LB/DE)
Dustin Harris (CB)
Coryell Judie (CB)
Charlie Thomas (S)

The rest I'm not too sure of.

Ring, ring... wake up call for Miller58. Miller58 your wanted for a HF debriefing on the aggy class of 2009....
