for what it's worth. i should say for the most part it's reasonable, and less laughable than in years past (or as the websider variety). think Kelley is about 15 spots too low, but that's burnt orange glasses talking..

Loston is great no doubt, but when is the last time a safety prospect was #1 in the state? no way he will finish ahead of mcfarland or gilbert (assuming gilbert doesn't lose part of the seaon after his shoulder injury) in the final state rankings. shepard.. who knows.. he may become a clear #1 or he could drop below loston in my mind. i think whaley moves up as the year progresses too.

I think Gilbert drops down to a 4-star until we find out how he plays post-surgery. I don't see why that wouldn't be the case.

Loston is nice, but not #1 in the state. #1 in the state is McFarland (though he doesn't bring it as often as I'd like) or Sheppard. Whaley/Pratt/Michael could make a claim with a monster season. I don't see how Jermie Calhoun got 5-stars yet those 3 are just 4-stars.

bundy.. you may be right about gilbert, but i think it'll be like stephen good in the end... he'll show he's ok, and be a 5 star come signing day.

Mcfarland is the most sure thing. Whaley is a beast and is every bit as good as Calhoun, who i agree seemed to have been given a 5 star pass last year (he's good, but i'd take RJW on any day over jermie). Pratt will never make 5 star b/c he's just not that special as a runner. Michael is good, but i see him as a 80-100 type ranking in the final 100, if he does make it.

Anyone else think this is the worst crop of WRs in years?

2007--Williams, Tolliver, Bryant
2008--Stonum, Buckner, Fuller

- Agree on the WR Crop Comments
- Best LB Class since 2002
- I've heard talk that MacFarland is a beast or at other times just a big body
- What seperates Whaley from Justin Johnson this time last year? Peronni has mentioned that he would have liked to have seen Whaley at LB
- Pratt is a LB pretending to be a RB.

Best LB class since 2002? i think our Kindle/Norton class of 06 still has something to say about that.. this year again looks down to me.. which by state of texas standards... is more like this year looks about the same as most previous.

i think the comparison of whaley to johnson is more like the comparison of pratt to johnson. whaley may be a big kid, but he's a better RB prospect than johnson. i'm sure whaley could play LB if he wanted to. agree pratt needs to be a LB.

even if you consider the LSR ranking as gold (which it's not), aaron williams was recruited as more of a cornerback that can play safety. i wouldn't doubt we'll see him at safety some at texas, but he can be a lockdown corner imo.

and as for deep linebackers.. we'll see if any on your list of such a deep class are in the national 100 list next year. somehow i doubt it. there's some issues with chris williams that are making some coaches shaky about offering, and he may be the best one.

I never said the LSR was gold, but it certainly qualifies as a viable ranking service which had Williams ranked as the #1 prospect in the state. And if you look on his rivals profile he is listed as a safety:

No need to split hairs though

1. Aaron Williams was a CB
2. When people talk about Loston they compare him directly to the Miami Safeties of a few years ago: Hard Hitting, Fast, Aggressive.
2a. One of my buddies went to the gamenight at Kyle last summer and watched Loston play. Well, Loston played at WR and he said Loston was by far the best WR on the field, better than Jeff Fuller who was also in attendance. This guy is an ATH pure and simple.

3. I hear the worries about Williams, but if you look all around this class is very talented at LB.

i don't think it's a deep LB class at all. There's always a bunch of LBs on the LSR100.

There are a few in the Top 50, but none in the Top 10, or top 20 according to AY.

another poor LB class, unless you want to count Pratt and Whaley as LBs.

From what I've heard, Tariq Allen is the best inside LB in the class while Chris McAllister is the best outside LB in the class. Them and that kid from Copperas Cove are the three I've heard the most about.

i was going to mention jerome sapp as well. he went to nd. his cornerback teammate went to texas. i think we ended up with the better player.
