Aggie Recruiting?

My personal opinions:

Since Mike Sherman was hired in 2007, he has committed 17 four and five star players!

Since February 13, 2010, Mac Brown has committed 17 four and five star players?

Not to worry miller...now that we've just about got our next class together, the Shermanator can start doing some recruiting.

Texas is only 2-2 against the Ags over the last 4 years. Many are pointing to 2010 as a good year for the aggies. Don't despair.

Though others have posted otherwise, I think with JJ, Christy, and that new O-Line,
you guys could be dangerous on offense.

According to Texags everything is A-ok.

Mack is just about done. No fears Miller. Shermy will still have a whole lot to choose from... as will Stoopsy & Miles & Tubby & Broyels &... I'm sure there's enough lite at the end of your tunnel.

My personal opinions:

I went over to an Lsu site last night to check their recruits; and they were laughing because almost everyone that was supposed to be at our" big junior day" had no showed us?

Wjth 60 commits already to big 12 teams, Arkansas, tcu, and Lsu now, and A&M can get almost nothing, even the mostly lower ranked leftovers to visit us, Sherman is dead.

And the five new coaches we just hired, four of them per rivals have not signed a single 4*/5* player in the last 5 years, or coached a single down of D1 bcs football for a team in the last 5 years._____The 5th has coached D1 football and signed only two 4*/5* players in the last 5 years?

McKinney and the board may be throwing Aggies, their fans and Sherman under the bus, by not giving Sherman enough money to hire at least a few top coaches?

One potential coach has signed 10 four star and 2 five star players in the last 5 years, and was an exact fit with D1 experience for one of our coaching positions, and was not even interviewed?

Our record was 3 wins and 10 losses last year!_____We only got credit for 3 more of the losses by other teams, when tech's top 2 quarterbacks suffered a broken leg and a concussion the week before playing us; then ISU's starting quarterback, starting running back and one other starter were hurt and didn't even suit up; and the third loss we took credit for, was baylor, when quarterback Robert Griffin suffered a broken leg earlier before playing us._____Griffin had us down 41-0 before halftime the year before.

I truly expect 3-9 this season, 2-10 next season, and 1-11 in 2012 with our terrible coaching and worse recruiting since Sherman's hire in 2007!

While I sometimes read and respond to those who post on Miller's threads, his schtick is old enough that I don't actually read his posts at all anymore. It is like the SNL sketches that drag on long past the moment when all appreciable humor has been wrung from a bit.

From what I can gather, the 2011 TAMU class is going to be small (about 16-18 kids).

There are still 15-20 real good players left. ABout 3 or 4 of those will end up in AUstin, another 7-10 to OU/LSU/other out of state power, leaving about 5-10 for Sherman to take with only Okie Lite, Tech, Arkansas, TCU, UH, Baylor, etc...

Its how we does with those 5-10 that will determine the success of the 2011 class. If Sherman can get 7 of a class of 17 to be real players, then he'll be OK.

I think he'll fall short and get maybe 3 of those 5-10 players.

The recruiting variable for Sherman this year is how his new coaches do with virtually no time to prep before hitting the recruiting road. I agree with you Bundy that if agricultural pulls in seven real good players, it'll be a good year for Sherman. I also have my doubts he'll get more than three or four. It might not hurt for them to start building toward the '12 class, like okie did a while back, conceding an average class while building for a strong one the following year.

Personal preference - once Texas has the verbals they want, I'd rather see the next tier stay instate - aggy, Tceh, TCU, Baylor, Rice, SMU - than go across the Red River.

Unfortunately, it looks like stoops is gonna pull a couple of more blue chips out of Texas this year than he did last year, because right now, nobody knows how well or not agricultural and Tech are gonna be able to recruit.

Wonder how many fans of agricultural would like to go back to the good old days of fifteen years ago, when aggy had an outstanding defense, and just enough offense to beat good teams by three points or so?

My personal opinions;

No more excuses, Mike Sherman is done at A&M!

Mike has an 85 man squad, of which 78 players have been personally evaluated, signed, and coached by him, since his hire in 2007.

Plus in addition, Mike has senior leadership on offense from Seniors Quarterback JJ, 0-Line Matt Allen, 0-Line Danny Baker and 0-Line Eilke, together with seniors WR T McCoy and WR Tannehill.

Then the defense is led by Seniors DT Patterson, All American LB Von Miller, and Corner Coryell Judie!

The terrible coaching and worse recruiting of the Sherman 10 +5, will result in a 3-9 record this season even with adding a 1-AA team to the schedule.

It is not the fault of the coaches!

It is he fault of McKinney, the A&M board approving them, and those who interviewed and hired them.

If anyone had taken a 5 minute look at their resumes, the Sherman 10 +5 clearly have never coached or recruited successfully at the D1 college team bcs level to win! Go look at their resumes!

Since Sherman was hired, the number of 4*/5* players committed has been:

UT 47
ou 42
Lsu 44
A&M 17

The results have been 12 blow out loses plus losses to colorado, Arkansas State and okie lite.

The people who interviewed, hired and approved these coaches, must never be allowed to hire another A&M football coach, again!

The Excuses are gone and so is Mike Sherman!

Miller, I appreciate your keeping us informed to the daily football woes of aggy-dom these days but I have a question.

I agree that McKinney and gang are unknowingly sabotaging the very institution they're obsessed with but how is $Bill Byrne exempt from any of this debacle?

houshorn, you have to take miller with a grain of salt.

that being said, if sherman doesnt work out at A&M, then i think byrne will find himself without a job as well. byrne has done good things for almost every other sport, but football has regressed significantly.

scuttlebutt around campus is that he's looking towards retirement soon anyways.

I still get a kick out of miller's posts, but I actually disagree with him a bit on aggy recruiting. They haven't set the world on fire with what they've brought in the last few years, but some pretty good players have headed to collie station, especially on offense. The ags have improved their talent under the Shermanator, but overall, the talent on hand hasn't been coached up very well, so the problem to me seems to be more with the coaching than the recruiting. Of course, being a Horn fan, I'm looking at it from afar.

i think sherman has done a good job of coaching the talent that we have on the offensive end. the work he did with the OL, and johnson's development have been pretty impressive.

it's the opposite on the defensive end. there's some talent there...not a lot...but some. certainly not among the worst in the country...but somehow we perform on par with the worst.

My personal opinions:

Answers to questions;

$Bill- all sorts of people are meddling in the diastrous hiring of our coaches in 2007, the Sherman 10; and now in 2010, the Sherman 10 +5._____ These meddlers must never be allwed to interview, hire or approve a hire of a football coach again, period.

It is sheer fantasy on the part of Ags to suggest that A&M has either a winning level big 12 bcs offense or defense, now or for year to come.

A&M, since Sherman's hire, has not recruited a single four or five star high school player for either safety, either corner, 3 linebacker positions, 2 defensive ends, quarterback, tight end, etc.?(rivals) _____Obvisouly no backups!_____
Can you believe this ? As an Ag, even I can't? _____There is no future?

Examples 0f our non offense quickly are, recent games with ou, where our offense obviously gets the ball as many tines as ou, but could only score a single touchdown, 10 points against an ou defense, that had half the staters just out of the hospital, and not suited up? 10-65?

Then there was Georgia in our bowl game, that had just fired their whole defensive staff and DC because their defense was so bad, all year?_____Coached by two graduate interns in the bowl game, our offense could manage only 20 points? 20-41?

Sherman's coaching- Fired by a winning Greenbay team. led by QB Farve, reportedly for "the inabilty to instill team discipline and the inability to evaluate player personnel, which cost Greenbay several games over the years", should raise a red flag?

One national publication has previously ranked Sherman's coaching "dead last"._____ I fully agree!

A&M has 10 coaches now, that each of which, do not have a past 5 year history of successful coaching and recruiting 4*/5* players at the Big 12 bcs team level.

My stated goal for A&M, has always been for us to compete for the big 12 championship and the mnc every year, just lke UT and ou have done, every year this decade!

With UT having signed 79 4*/5* players in the last 5 years and A&M only 29, I realistically estimate that A&M is only a minimum of, about 50 top 4*/5* players and 10 new winning coaches and 5+ years away, from my goal of competing for the big 12 and mnc every year?

_____miller58

Texas A&M will never compete for a MNC every year, they might occasionally compete for a Big 12 Title sometime in the distant future. A&M is historically a 4th place team. Aggies should hold a parade anytime they finish 3rd or better at anything.

A&M is not, and never has been a consistent top ten football team. The only time they've enjoyed any continued success in modern times, they did so by buying players, and competing in a watered-down SWC. Otherwise, the A&M football team has varied from middle of the pack to really bad.

My burnt orange blinders are off in saying this. As a matter of fact, it's interesting to me that a program with as many potential advantages as A&M has, has so consistently underachieved. I'm not sure where the blame is, unless it's too much interferance from the administration and moneyed supporters, lack of any long range planning by A&M for football success, lack of skill in hiring head coaches and lack of patience with those that are hired, or the perception on the part of good players that A&M is cultish and a strange place to spend four years. Maybe it's a combination of all of those things, but the fact is, no matter how much hard core A&M fans try to convince themselves otherwise, A&M is rarely relevant in college football.

Sorry if the facts hurt...but they ARE the facts, and there's nothing apparently being done to correct the problems in College Station.

My guess is that A&M would fare better in recruiting if they were not in the same conference as UT. Like Georgia and Georgia Tech, or Florida and Florida State, A&M might benefit from offering recruits an entirely different set of potential opponents.

i think A&M can be nationally relevant. we have facilities, money, good fanbase, and a fertile recruiting ground.

i think we consistently underachieve and have since the advent of the program.

i dont think we will ever be consistently year in and year out in the hunt for the national title, but i see no reason that we cant compete for the big 12 south every year, and be in contention for the national title ever 3-5 years. in my opinion, there's no reason that we shouldnt be a top 15 program every year. that's minimum expectations (maybe it's unrealistic...). once you're there, it only takes a few breaks to get into that top 10 neighborhood every so often that programs like UT, florida, USC, and alabama are in year in and year out.

absolutely no reason that we are performing as poorly as we have for the past 10 years. no excuses.

I think A&M would be nationally relevant if it moved to Houston or Dallas. That campus is so geographically isolated (and don't try to say other campuses are isolated because everything is bigger in Texas) that it is tough for it to be relevant. Yes we have TV and the internet, but do recruits really want to go live there?

People may argue Penn State is just as isolated - well, without JoPa they may very well become another aggy.
