After watching the Mavs I can't help but compare..

them to our beloved Texas Longhorn men's basketball team. Do you think Rick Barnes would ever take a look at a TEAM concept like the Mavs have developed and change the way he approaches recruiting and building the program? I know it took the Mavs forever to finally win it, so it does not happen overnight, but whatever Rick is doing right now is obviously not working (at least as far as winning championships go).

I think I know the answer, but one can hope.

No, they had a bunch of talented individuals that could not gel cohesively at the most critical time of the year (NCAA tournament). Remind you of a certain NBA team with talented individuals? At least that team made the finals. Texas could not even get out of the 2nd round.

I'm tired of these "Barnes needs to stop recruiting so well" threads. Sometimes, it's hard to tell if these players are one and done. I don't think Barnes fully expected Tristan to leave, and Joseph probably shouldn't have. It's just the way things go. Personally, I want Barnes to continue to recruit the best players he can get. It certainly worked for UK.

Not sure how you can really compare college basketball to NBA. For Dallas they were able to stick with Dirk for 12+ years, develop him, and build a team around him. In college you get players for at most 4 years. If they are really good you may only get them for 1 to 2 years. Dirk is a superstar and in college he would be one of those players that leaves in 1 to 2 years. But even if he were tier below that just needed 4 years to develop into a superstar, that really isn't enough time to built a team around a guy as you seem to be suggesting.

The horns did play better team basketball this year. Problems I saw were a lack of a true point guard and depth. Our team often seemed to wear out in the 2nd half due to the tenacious D the played in the 1st half of games.

I think Barnes needs to make sure he has a big man and a true point guard on the roster every year. Many years we are lacking one or the other. I liked what I saw with the offense this year and hope Barnes is able to keep it going from here on.

It was a loose comparison. Not supposed to be literal.

And I agree with the PG. Not so much about the big man. College basketball is all about the guards, and especially the PG.

Early in the year, our "new offense" look pretty good for the most part, especially given that nobody was used to it and we were still working the kinks out and trying to adjust. By February it looked exactly like the old offense.

Horn in LA ftw!
