Advice on things to do in Austin ...

for sixteen year old daughter, spring break for her in two weeks. I know for sure she wants to watch the boys football practices....but where else can I take her?

We had the same problem a couple of years ago. Our sixteen year old niece visited, and mainly ran up a phone bill talking to her boy friend back home.
But some things that she enjoyed were the Broken Spoke, surprisingly enough, although she was not a country fan. She got asked to dance a few times, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Alamo Draft House for a movie is different that most towns movie houses. She might like iceskating or rollerskating, or roller blading.
How about sitting in a UT class? This is a good way to see how college really is, and she could just go sit in most big lecture classes, some of which are highly entertaining-art history, history of photography, Goetzmann's art of the West class, or many others.
A tour of campus is good, scenic drives-the lake or Barton Springs if warm enough. Depends what she likes.
Good luck, awkward age in which they generally don't like hanging around with adults.

Thanks for the help...she's into anything UT, so we have appts to look at 2 off campus dorms, etc. She'll be a Jr next year so we're getting ahead of the game since we are out of state. Of course she has to watch the guys practice one of the days, she loves football and most of the players too. I had thought of taking her Barton Springs, and she is into shopping (we created this fashion monster). Good idea for sitting in on a class. Thanks again for your help!

We made the mistake of taking our niece to some of our favorite restaurants, and found out she only ate imitation chicken strips, or some such alledged food.
So find out what she likes.

Mount Bonnell or the Barton Creek greenbelt are nice places to go if she likes the outdoors. I always found visitors to Austin liking those two things. Another fun thing to do is to rent some rollerblades and go to the veloway. Town Lake hike and bike trail is also good.

Have fun. Austin is an easy town to find something to do.

Sad as it sounds when we have my parents, my in-laws or anybody like come in to town, there always seems to be a trip to the San Marcos shopping outlets.

You might want to include (across the street from UT):

Give the next three time to load and "sequence".

Besides the historical exhibits, the 3D IMAX (I only recommend the 3D movies, currently "Cyberworld") and the "Texas Spirit Theater" ("the only multimedia special effects theater of its kind in Texas" - 10 different special effects, some built right into the theater seats!) should be fun for most.

The "Bob Bullock" is a "non-collecting museum", meaning that it's exhibits will change over time, encouraging repeat visits.

BTW, you said in two weeks - that would be the week of March 25-th ???

If so, you simply must
stay through Saturday afternoon !!!

Saturday, March 30-th, is the date for Mack Brown's Annual Spring Jamboree.

Admission is free !!!

Festivities start ~ 9:00am with souvenir sales, Bevo, bands, cheerleaders, pom, etc.

At 2:00pm, the Final Spring Scrimmage kicks off in DKR-TMS.

After the "game", she has the opportunity to meet, and get autographs of, all
of the players and coaches.

Moreover, all day long, these here Horn Fans, as well as Inside Texas and other organizations, have Tailgate Parties across from the stadium.

Last Spring, The University estimated that 31,000 attended !!!

If the dates are right, you have
to "take her" (quotation marks because I'm not sure who will enjoy it the most!).

I haven't missed one yet...
