Advice on moving out of US

There is a chance that I will take a job transfer to Ireland (I'm over here now checking it out).

Does anyone have any advice, specifically tax-wise, for being a US citizen living abroad? My pay would be in euros, but I want to deposit ~60% of it back to the US.

Screw saving. Living in Ireland is a once in a lifetime experience. Blow all your cash on golf weekends in the UK and weekend trips to Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Athens, Istanbul, Moracco, etc.

You won't regret it.

when I lived in Italy I blew almost every dollar I made.... I came home with what ended up being $300 .... 23 and stupid was my excuse

you still have to pay taxes on your foreign income. you have to convert euros to dollars.

I believe you have to check out pub 54, but I'm not a tax professional. I think that's what my dad files for foreign earned income, or something.

I don't really want to save the 60% of my income. I need that amount to pay for expenses back in Texas (I'm not going to sell my house). What I would like to do is only pay Irish tax on the 40% I keep in country. I've heard that you can also deduct housing costs in another country from your US taxes.

The tax rate and cost of living over here is insane. I had a rental car that I put half a tank of gas in and it cost me 70US. 140 bucks to fill up a Honda Accord...nuts...
