ADSL Modem and Wireless Router Recommendation

Okay, I have SBC Yahoo DSL. I got a free 2Wire unit, but it maxes me out at 11 Mbps. I want to get that up to 50 or better.

Basically I need something where I just plug my phone line into it and it transmits. I don't want to have to run the phone line to a modem, and then the 10/100 network connection to the WiFi.

I can't find **** for this anywhere. Surely this product exists, aside from the 2Wire I already have.

yeah, it's called Cable Modem, welcome to 2004.

a smart *** reply is likely not what you wanted, then again you went DSL for highspeed anyway.

I'm not 100% clear on what you want.

Your SBC Yahoo DSL setup should have come with 2 pieces of equipment: a DSL modem and the 2Wire router that uses your phone cables as a poor man's LAN. Do you also have a hub or switch that connects to the 2Wire for additional 10/100 connectivity?

If you don't need the remote connections that are provided by the 2Wire, you can replace it with a regular broadband router. Your DSL modem would connect to the WAN port of the router, and your computers would connect to the LAN side.

If you have PCs in multiple locations, and you don't happen to have ethernet cable run to all of them, you can replace the 2Wire and the hub/switch with a wireless router that has multiple physical 10/100 ports as well as a 54Mbps or 108Mbps wireless receiver. Your remote PCs would need wireless transmitters, either USB or PCI, to connect to the network. Any PCs that are near the router would connect with ethernet patch cables.

If you are looking to ditch both the DSL modem and the wireless router, and replace them with a single piece of equipment, good luck. I haven't seen any of those.

By the way, if your goal is to increase your internet speeds, upping your wireless bandwidth isn't really going to help. Your 11Mbps connection is already well over what your DSL or even a T-1 (1.5Mbps) can transmit. If you want to increase the bandwidth between the devices on your network, then replacing the 2Wire makes sense.
