Adrian Beltre

Jon Daniels has made some good moves in his time with the Rangers but this was not one of them. The guy has a history of only playing well during contract years and so far this year he has 1 grand slam and nothing else to show for it.

He is about the same age as Young and has only had 2 seasons where he hit above .285. Young has only had 2 seasons in which he hit below .285. Fielding percentages aren't really that much different from year to year either.

Maybe he will work out in the end but IMHO I would have rather spent that money on an extra year in the deal for Cliff Lee. We could have used the pitching. Now we have a third baseman that has proven to only play well in a contract year that is hitting .130 for the season so far. I just don't see the point in screwing with Young who has been consistently good and the face of your team for a guy that has never proven to be a good consistent player.

Wow...someone hasn't been watching so far this season. Beltre has already made plays at 3B that make me want to get up and kiss my TV. Skillet glove Young couldn't dream of making those plays; hence, why Beltre is the Rangers 3B.

Beltre will hit .270 this season with a dozen or so homers and Gold Glove defense. I'll take it every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Skillet glove? Beltre is a good fielder but I'm not sure where people get the Young is a bad fielder. His Career fielding percentage is better than Beltre. He has 88 fewer errors in 2 less years in the Majors than Beltre. So had Young played those two extra seasons he would've had to have made 44 errors per season to equal Beltre.

Beltre does make some great plays but the career stats show that Young isn't significantly worse in the field. And Young shows up every year at the plate no matter what his contract situation is. Young has hit over .300 6 times in his career. Beltre has done it twice (both contract years).

I hope I eat crow on this one and he has another career year but his history suggests otherwise. I just think especially with Davis playing as well as he did in Spring training at 3rd (even though he seems to have trouble hitting in the majors) that money could have been better spent on starting pitching.

Dude, you show your ignorance by spouting fielding percentage. Exactly where does that factor in range? Fielding percentage favors those players that get to fewer balls, because they have less chances to make an error.

Beltre was considered the best 3B defensively in the American League by all and the 3rd or 4th best in baseball. Michael Young? He was rated the 3rd worst, only ahead of Alex Rodriguez and David Wright.

Look up UZR sometime. To put it in a better statistic, just putting Beltre at 3rd will account for two more wins for the Rangers this year. And, he will upgrade the runs given up this year by saving 19 runs. That's huge. That's the difference between Nelson Cruz and Vladimir Guerrero in right, plus some.

Research this.

Also, Beltre has been hitting the ball hard. His time will come. He's hitting better than Mark Teixiera does annually at this time.

One thing that Beltre's teammates should *NOT* do is pat him on the head after he hits a homer. It was hilarious to see the dugout hijinx last year when he was playing for Boston. Several times he'd come back to the dugout after hitting a homer and someone like Youkilis or Victor Martinez would try to pat him on the head and they would just about come to blows. Beltre does NOT like anyone touching his head

Hilarious.

I'm a long-time fan of Michael Young and am glad that he's still a part of the organization. However, anyone who even attempts to argue that he is comparable defensively at 3B to Beltre risk forfeiting all baseball credibility.

The play that Beltre made on the shot down the line today was nothing short of amazing (with a very nice pick-up by Moreland at 1B, too). Young doesn't even sniff
that ball.

That said, Wash would probably do Beltre (and Hamilton) a favor by dropping Beltre down in the order a spot or two and letting Cruz follow (and protect) Hamilton in the cleanup spot.

Michael Young is my all-time favorite Ranger, and yet I am THRILLED that we have Beltre at third. Young's range (or lack of range, should I say) drove me nuts last year. And yes, Beltre will hit. I'm not saying that's he going to hit 48 HR like he did that one year in LA, but he'll get the job done.

I like Young despite his constant whining even when making
16 mil per. but everytime he has been asked to move his old position was upgraded defensively. I agree about Beltres bat in contract years but the glove issue is a no brainer!

Beltre is a better fielder than Young. I get that. He is an upgrade on the field. I'm a Young homer, but I think the greater need was a solid starting pitcher. I just felt that money could have been better served getting a solid starter that didn't have shoulder issues. If we have a starter go down during the season it could be trouble. We will still win the division but that solid starter could be the difference when it comes to the playoffs. If Beltre ends up hitting .285 or up with a bunch of RBI's then I'll agree it was worth it. If he has an off year at the plate though we probably could've gotten close to the same results with Chris Davis (who is a great defensive player but has struggled at the plate in the majors) who has looked good at 3B. I guess only time will tell this season.

As far as fielding goes there is No comparison between Young and Beltre, Adrian may be the best defensive third baseman in the game, Young should not be near third base except when he is playing offense.

What starting pitcher did you want them to spend the money on, Chemhorn? Cliff Lee? They offered more money than he ultimately took with Philadelphia.

Garza? Not a free agent. Grienke? Not a free agent.

Who was available? What did they get paid? Who would you have given Beltre's money to?

I admit it I was wrong. Beltre didn't miss half the season, his error didn't just cost us two runs, and our starting pitching is really taking care of business in this game one against a rookie who is pitching his second game. My bad.

Without the moves that JD made to get Nap and Beltre, who went .296 with 32 and 105 despite missed games, we wouldn't be in the playoffs. You are not only smoking crack but have lost any baseball credibility with your small sample size buffoonery. I blame yesterday's loss 90% on CJ and 10% on our non-Hamilton lineup members, including Beltre and Young.

agree with Rex. beltre missed about 40 games. so roughly 25% of season. and losing 9-0, 2 runs doesnt mean ****. yesterday was terrible all around.

I'm just glad me making an *** out of my self and renting this mule had a purpose. I'll take my lumps if Beltre keeps hitting like this.

September Player of the Month rolling into October. Wowzer. One night Nap, next night Beltre.

Hook'em!!!
