Adobe Flash Player

Okay, I"m about to pull out what remaining hair I have.

My Fantasy Football website as well as my Photo upload website says I should update Adobe Flash 9 or greater.

At least 5 times I have "successfully" downloaded Adobe Flash Player 10.1....but yet it doesn't show up anywhere. I do a search on programs and it does not appear. The websites mentioned above still don't show that I've done the update.

I've rebooted every time and nothing shows.

Anyone know what the hell I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

What OS, windows perhaps? Uninstall it from the control panel add/remove programs and then install it clean. Who knows what is going on but that is the best way to cure a troublesome install generally.

BTW, be sure to get the version from Adobe's website.

You are running 64 bit Explorer. You should switch to 32 bit Explorer or use Firefox. Flash does not work with 64 bit Explorer.

Thanks guys. The 64-bit Explorer may be the problem. I went to Adobe and set up an account and did the download from there and still have same problem.

Don't know if this is significant. In my Program List it shows as "Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X" In the download instructions the sample screens shows a "Run Active X" command, but those words are never shown in the actual download process.

Funny thing is I've had this computer for 10 months (64-bit) and its run Adobe Flash 9 just fine. Maybe there's something different about the new 10.1 version. Ugh.

You can download the standalone installer from here.

Close all your browser windows before running the installer.

Or, you could just dump IE altogether and use another browser. Chrome is my current browser of choice.

I checked Adobe and they say that the Player is not good with a 64-bit OS. They have a 32-bit IE - maybe same as yours Waldo - but I haven't done it yet.

Thanks.

Pretty sure the one I linked is the ActiveX version for 32-bit IE. It will still run on a 64-bit OS, it will just be in 32-bit emulation mode.

Everything Adobe is a pain in the ***, they do more updates than Windows, it seems. Best is to uninstall everything Adobe completely and start fresh, and that doesn't mean just using Uninstall Programs in Control Panel because that won't get rid of it all. There is an uninstaller program to be used, if you don't find it on Adobe.com, run a search for Uninstall Adobe and download it from a reputable site Save it to your desktop so you can find it and delete it after uninstalling Adobe programs. Reboot after uninstalling before you reinstall any new versions.

I may have misstated my problem. I can successfully download 10.1. It shows up in my Program List. However, it's not being recognized when I go to websites that require it - e.g., Youtube - says I need newer version of Adobe Flash.

I have Windows 7, but my IE appears to be a 32-bit version. Wouldn't that be consistent with being able to download the 10.1 version? Just not sure why it's not recognizable on websites that need to use it.

(Under Internet Properties it says IE is the default web browser. Separate sentence says IE (64-bit) cannot be the default web browser.)

Thanks again.

I use FireFox but since downloading Adobe Flash 10.1, I've been having a lot of problems with sites that need Flash. Personally, I think there's a problem with 101. I'd go back to 9.x if I were you.
