Add WVU to the list of teams that now hate Texas

They are bitching about the WVU game on Saturday being on the LHN:

The Link

I wonder if these same fans realize that their home game against TCU on March 1st is only available on Root Sports (Pittsburgh region), their tier3 carrier. I sure don't see them apologizing to the Frogs for them not being able to see that game (and yes I get WVU >> TCU in basketball this year).

As a Directv customer, I agree with the Mountaineers on this one.

The lack of accessibility to the LHN blows. It's bad for the fans (of both teams) and terrible for recruiting. Hopefully, they can continue to work on making it available to the major cable providers.

This is a fun team to watch, too bad many can't.

The lack of understanding of HornFans is the issue. If have access to one of the cables systems that carry LHN or FIOS or U-verse (which covers most of the country) you have no reason to be complaining . No it is not on either of the satellites, but YOU are making the choice not to change over to a provider in your area that does carry LHN. If you do not want to change fine, but quit your whining about lack of access.

I live in a city of 50k in Texas and our cable system does not carry it. Could be part of the reason OU owns this area in recruiting.

Viper, I have LHN but for a period of time, I did not. I live in Austin, I called the other providers and none of them serviced my area. Not until Time Warner made it available could I watch it on my TV. So while some people would love to switch, they probably can't. I hope everyone is able to get it soon because it's really nice.

I think many here would be surprised at how much of the country and Texas still have no way to access LHN.

Until Dish & Directv get LHN, it's irrelevant. I bet there's not 5% of Texas fans that get it. That's a problem!!!

When another provider gets the NFL package, I'll consider changing to that one. It would have cost me an add'l $70/month to get the most basic Uverse package that includes the LHN. I'd pay $10-15/month if it was offered ala carte, but it's not. (I still don't understand why ESPN doesn't offer it as a PPV thru streaming devices.) Bottom line is I'd rather watch the entire NFL schedule + add'l channels during the PGA's majors than a handful of football, basketball & baseball games.

My problem with the LHN is not whether lifelong fans of the Horns have lots of access. I am and I do. I have LHN. Whoopee!

My problem with it is that vast numbers of kids, future recruits, do not have access to it, and thereby their access to Texas sports is likely limited. Kids don't make decisions about which networks parents choose to subscribe to. Plus, when games were on one of the espn's or FSW, etc., the games would be hyped by that channel all week, alerting more kids to tune in. Now, if a game is on LHN, only the LHN is promoting it. Its a closed loop for those games. If and when LHN becomes as available as Fox, FSW, or EXPN, etc., then and only then will LHN be a recruiting asset.

If kids choose a college based on which Tier 3 games are shown on television, then I think we need a serious overhaul of recruiting practices anyhow. Catering to the ignorant has never been my style, but if that's what it takes to nab recruits, then get rid of the network altogether.

Heaven forbid kids actually consider things like academics, atmosphere, athletic perks, hotness of women, or any other factors when selecting a university.

I don't blame the folks who can't get access to LHN. Many people live in the sticks and need the satellite dish. And there's no way DirecTV will pick it up any time soon, as they wouldn't get enough new subscribers to offset the cost of the channel. But whining about it costing us recruits is like pissing into the wind. Our play on the court/field is what's been costing us. You don't see Jerritt Elliott having trouble nabbing recruits. He produces. Mack blindly kept doing what wasn't working and he didn't produce. Barnes kept doing what wasn't working (at least until the 2013-14 season started) and that's why we haven't seen a recruiting turnaround there, but I think we will get one if things keep going our way in bball this year.

I agree - nothing helps recruiting like winning.

But it doesn't change the fact that 2 teams in the top half of the Conference standings - and 2 of the hotter teams in the Conference - will square off Saturday night and most of us will have to make alternative plans if we want to see it. The only upside to the LHN is the money we get, but the downside far outweighs that.

"If kids choose a college based on which Tier 3 games are shown on television"

They wouldn't choose it just based on that, most likely, but that hardly means it wouldn't help if they could see more of our games.

I'm not entirely sure I agree. The whole "it couldn't hurt" argument could just as easily be sewed into a "it probably doesn't help" argument. I'm sure the WVU game would be a good example, but getting guys to sign with us probably doesn't hinge on their ability to see our offensive sets against UTA, or which bench players got the most time against Mercer.

I'll just stand by my original statement. I honestly don't think it helps/hurts either way, especially when compared to winning.

I posted this on "In the Stands" but am doing a job outside of Morgantown WVa and this guy at the office is avid Mountaineers fan. He is pissed at LHN. I told him welcome to my world! (DirecTV in Dallas). He was STUNNED. He thought everyone in the state of Texas had LHN. Pretty funny how LHN is viewed across this great land of ours.

Hoping to find a bar here Saturday to see the game!

Now that Comcast will acquire Time Warner Cable, subject to regulatory approval, who knows whether Comcast -- no LHN there -- will pick up LHN? It's safe to say ESPN will not be able to shove LHN down Comcast's throat.

In Oregon, where neither AT&T U-verse nor Verizon FIOS is available and Comcast is the dominant cable provider, LHN is simply not available. It's quite insensitive for someone to say LHN is available in most areas of the country. UT made a mistake with LHN. I hope Comcast will take away LHN from current Time Warner customers and make that point loud and clear. A tiny content creator like LHN has no leverage -- even with the help of ESPN -- against the cable/sattellite companies who will bulk up time and again and beat them into submission.

Would someone please explain to me again how the LHN televising a game that WAS NOT going to be picked up by anyone else hurts Texas recruiting?

Anyway, it was only a matter of time before WVU started hating Texas.

Because the game would have absolutely been picked up by the many different outlets that broadcast Big 12 games.

It's a home game if ESPN doesn't want to carry the game then LHN has the option and of course they are going to carry it.

If there was no LHN then the Big 12 Network would have broadcast the game. Just like they broadcast the road games that ESPN doesn't carry.

The argument can be made that the "ESPN+" Big 12 network provider would pick up the game, and I tend to agree that it would be in most of these cases. I live in DFW, and it's the KTXA-21 and KTXD-47 channels usually, especially when the SEC Network is showing football in the fall. The WVU game would fall in this category for sure. Maybe not the Houston Baptist and Texas State games.

This is kind of like when CBS Sports picks up a game, but only about one-fifth of cable providers have that channel in one of their basic-to-mid-level cable packages, necessitating the switch to the top tier sports plan just to get it. I think LHN will eventually head that way for the satellite boys, but it'll take another couple of years.

People who have the "F"ing LHN need to quit bitching about the fans that do not have any possible access to it.

I'm lucky enough to have it. The refs are letting em play & Texas is up 5 with over 7mins left in 1st half.

If there were no LHN, this game would have been on ESPN or ESPN 2. ESPN would have provided much wider viewership across the country. Agree with WVa on this one.
