Acer brand laptops

I am considering buying an Acer laptop off of newegg.com, seems like a decent deal to me.

Anyone have one, how do they rate compared to Sony, Dell, Toshiba? Thanks,

some of their laptops have gotten good reviews or editor's choice on cnet based on features, price and performance. Not rated as consistently as say Dell or Toshib and their customer service definately not rated as high. See if cnet has a review or user opinion on the model you saw on newegg.

Also the inevitable they're made by a Taiwanese manufacturer putdown may crop up. Well just think where a good % of the parts in other company's laptops are made from.

Buy a thinkpad. They're the best laptops out there. You can get some fairly cheap - I would not buy any other computer.
I've owned a lot of computers and IBMs are the best.

I had an Acer Extensa several years ago and didn't have many problems with it. Actually, Acer had bought Texas Instruments' line of laptops, which is what I had. The laptop even had the TI logo on it.

I have no idea what their reputation is like now.

I thought I had narrowed down my laptop choices last week but Dell introduced a new model the Inspiron 700m so I'm still confused. 700m doesn't start shipping until September which really sucks since I'd like to have it by the end of August.
