Im planning a weekend road trip with a few friends and I am using priceline to snag a hotel on the cheap.

Can someone compare and contrast getting a hotel in these areas:

A. French Quarter
B. Downtown
C. Convention Center

My immediate guess is that the French Quarter would the most near all the action.

Im wondering what its like to stay near the convention center. Is it walking distance to any of the good night life, or we gonna have to cab it from that distance.

Thanks for the responses

Walking to the Quarter from the Convention Center or Downtown is not good, especially at night. My impression is that It can be scary if you are not in a group. Daytime is OK, but nighttime is not.

What SabreHorn said. Windsor Court was damn nice. Good restaurant and bar there also. Definitely watch your step at night if not with a group.

If using Priceline or Hotwire, select French Quarter ONLY.

If money is a concern, call the Dauphine Orleans:The Link I recommend a room at the Cottage House, which is across the street from the main hotel.

There is a Holiday Inn Express on Carondelet, which is right across Canal from where Bourbon dead ends into it. Stayed there many times and always nice and normally a less expensive alternative to most spots in the area. Walking distance to everything in the Quarter.

On a side note....while in the Quarter, take the time to have a bloody mary in the street level bar of the Fairmont. Trust me.
