About to order 'The Dish'

Any advise?

I've been cable bound and have been told that Comcast will not have Gameplan this year. So I'm switching.

Anything I should look out for? Anything I should be leary of? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

My mother has Dish & one thing I don't like is their DVR. It's a good deal because it's free, but with theirs you don't have the capabilities you have with the Directv Tivo (E.G. You can't record a program while you watch another, you can't record two programs at once).

Also, you can't get NFL Ticket & I don't believe you get NFL Network with Dish. So if the NFL is important to you, I would recommend getting Directv instead.

if you have more than one tv, you can tape something while watching the other, i do it all the time. i have noticed that with high winds or strong storms it will go out, but we do live in an apartment meaning we might not have as strong as signal as someone would in a house. (positioning) i have been quite happy with the Dish.

Sounds to me like your mom got a base DVR box. In that case, it can't be done. But, just like with Tivo, there are several different types of boxes. Including some with dual tuners.

Depends on the tuner you have. If you have a dual-tuner model, you can record 2 things at once. You need DVR-522. I have Dish and like it. I'm looking forward to the HDTV-DVR coming down in price.

I've got the older model dual tuner, the 721. I also have the original 501 that's up in the kids playroom. For HDTV I use Time Warner. Last night I picked up the SA8000 HDTV DVR. Got it all hooked up and played with it last night. Works great so far. It's a dual tuner model that also records HDTV.
