? about SXSW Wristbands

I picked up a couple of SXSW music wristbands from craigslist the other day. Someone at work said that the 2008 wristbands were only made available for Austin residents and I may not be able to use them??? Does anyone have any info about this? I couldn't find very much on the sxsw website. It seems once they have been purchased originally they could be resold to anyone without a problem. But not sure about the process. I was thinking I would just slap it on my wrist and go. Also, what's up with the security thing underneath the SXSW logo? How does that work?

My understanding is that all wristbands will be placed on purchaser wrist at the time of pickup. Further, I think they are fairly rigid about making sure the wristband is placed onto the wrist of the person who originally made the purchase. They are supposed to be completely non-transferrable.

I'll be picking mine up later today so I'll report back about the process if I have the time.

I see where it says that the wristbands will be snapped on at time of pickup. But the ones I have purchased are brand new and have never been used. So if I just snap them on myself, how would they know?

They certainly would not know. I would just question how those wristands made it to Craigslist and are they legitimate?

good luck.

Well played.

I think with some research and following what some of us who seem to have this whole sxsw thing wired you can get all you want without the cost of a badge. I actually do fine now without a wristband.

Prioritize, day shows and free shows at night are the tricks.

I have attended many SXSW shows in the past, but this year I'll only be watching the ones that are being televised.

Rama, vato, there is a thread on here with about four links to sites that list the free shows. The problem is that at this time the guest lists are likely closed since the people running the websites are in town already getting set up.

How it works is you go to a website by the magazine, soda pop, clothesline, store, what have you and put your name on the first come, first serve guest list. You present your id at the door and get food, drink and music for free. Some, like American Eagle last year, have lots of swag if you are early enough.

So the key is to act early. You can still try but sadly the options may be slimmer. You can always try to crash the gig though. ****, it's free and the person at the front with the list could maybe care less. Be nice and they may let you in.

Just walk around Sixth and Fourth street areas and try to walk in. Ya never know.

On Saturday there is a free show with the Breeders, NoFx, Simian Mobile Disco and a **** ton of others. It's at Waterloo Park. It is called, Mess With Texas 2. Google that with the word, "waterloo" and it should pop up.

Also, tomorrow night you get Spoon, Grupo Fantasma and Del the Funky Homosapien (Deltron 3030, etc...) at Auditoreum Shores.

Sat. you can go check out Talib Kweli, Lyrics Born and some dude named, Ice Cube. Free.
