About F-ing Time

Tiger just birdies the 17th at TPC to get to 6 under. He walks towards caddy Williams and you can see him mouth the words, "Bout f-ing time." Classic.

Despite his Stanford education, Tiger has a pretty foul mouth. You can see it over and over again on the tour when he misses a shot.

I believe his temper will keep him from being a much better golfer over his career.

Damn it!!

You guys are aware that considering you see 99% of Tiger's shots, you are a lot more likely to see his negative emotions...right? Especially considering they often show him for another 15 seconds after his shot. When Tiger is having a poor round, you still see every shot of his. When everyone else is having a poor round, you're not gonna see but 4-5 of their shots on the back nine.

If you guys want to see a real hot head, you should have followed a guy like Pat Perez around a couple years ago. He seems to have gotten it under control though.

As someone who was fortunate to have been a marshal during the old Legends tour, I can assure you that most the golfers who hit a bad shot would say almost exactly what Tiger would say. Sometimes even the caddies too. So as someone simply states, we see more of Tiger's outburst because we see more of Tiger.

You don't think the fact that microphones are A) More prevalent and B) a hell of a lot more sensitive might have something to do with you hearing more of Tiger's F bombs than Arnie and Jack back in the day?

Oh yeah, and Tiger should stop fist pumping and start throwing his putter as far as he can up over his head like the old timers too.

To be honest, if Tiger was playing in any of those eras, he would have the record for major championships already, with his attitude or without it. Golf is just so much more popular now and the fields are much more competitive than they were even 15-20 years ago. If there were no Tiger, Phil would be on the level of Arnie as far as wins. As far as ability, he already is. Back in the day, there were 5-6 players who are safe bets. Now, there are 2-3, but there are another 25 who are legitimate contenders on any week, see guys like Geoff Ogilvy, Kenny Perry, Angel Cabrera, etc.

Would Tiger be a better player if he could control his emotions? Obviously. Every player would be. But his emotions are really not much worse than the tour average, if it all. He's just "more intense" so his positive emotions don't balance out his negative ones like say, Phil Mickelson or Arnold Palmer walking up the fairway with an ear to ear smile after a great shot.

The old timers didn't have nearly as much on the line as Tiger and others have on the line these days. 1 shot could be the difference between a million and 250K or a huge chunk on that next endorsement deal. It wasn't nearly on that scale back in the day. Its just human nature. If there's more to lose, there's gonna be more emotion in it.

Trust me, I've played golf with quite a few college golfers who don't have "anger issues" but I've seen thrown clubs and balls, I've seen the arms on stand bags snapped by the shaft of a 9 iron, and i've seen friends and family cussed out many times. Golf today is just more of a competitive animal than it used to me.

Does that mean golf has lost some of its "gentlemanly" qualities? Sure, whatever. But if golf has to be less elitist to get better quality, good for golf.

If you don't think golf's principles are elitist you're crazy. Meh...the fact of the matter is that Tiger basically pays for his right to say whatever he wants to. Sorry to tell you, but your grandchildren are hearing things much worse than what Tiger is saying every day at school and around the neighborhood. If you don't like hearing Tiger, turn the volume off. That way you kill two birds with one stone: No profanity and no Johnny Miller.

With his work ethic and determination, Tiger more than makes up for any negative examples he may be setting with his mouth.

HHD just has a case of the "good ol' days" syndrome where he remember everything good from the past and everything bad from the present. And part of the "good" from the past for him was the lack of pigment in the golfers' skin. His use of a racial epithet was just the beginning. If Tiger was white, HHD would be the first person in line to get his hat signed.

Sorry HHD, Tigger has racial overtones that even you should be able to see. If you've been a golf fan since Tiger's emergence, you know that. The fact that you backed it up with really, really weak stuff that relates back to an all white tour merely makes the picture more clear.

Okay, JohnnyM, you're entitled to your opinion. We've agreed to disagree. Hope to see you on another thread sometime.
