? about .38 super auto..

My dad, who passed away in '05..left me a box w/ some of his belongings and I finally got around to opening it. Inside among other things was a brand new Rossi .38 special and 3 boxes of .38 super auto, 130 gr..I'm trying to figure out why, he bought this ammo. for that gun..

Can you shoot, super auto in a .38 special?

Maybe it has an optional cylinder to handle the auto shells?

I had a Ruger Blackhawk 357 that had an optional 9mm cylinder.

Same slug, different shell.

yeah, it's a revolver, but no optional cylinder, so I'm guessing that it's not a good idea.
