Abita Beer

The girlfriend and I took a short roadtrip over to New Orleans a couple weekends ago. Fun trip. Anywho... I always try to stick with 'local' beers when I travel and I was very surprised with Abita beer. I've seen a couple of their beers in bottles, but do any Austin establishments carry their beer on tap? Good stuff.

Not sure if this is most appropriate on 'Around Austin', 'On the Road', or 'Horn Depot'.....

i don't know specifically, but ginger man has a ton of beers on tap, and cafe evangeline way the hell down south has several abita beers on the menu but don't know if its on tap or bottled.

Hopefully you tried the Harvest Lager that is made with strawberries from Ponchatoula, La. That stuff rocks. Every year they make more, every year they sell out. I have a case sitting at my house.

It there was a place where I could get Abita AND Fat Tire on tap I would seriously consider moving there because I would be in paradise.

texas showdown used to have turbo dog on tap. it was $6 for a pitcher in 1999/2000, but i'm sure that has changed (along with the awesome jukebox they used to have

The McCormick and Schmick's in Houston has the amber on tap. Good chance the one in Austin will too.

Trudy's used to have TurboDog. I haven't been there in a while, though.

The usual suspects (Gingerman, Draught House, Opals, etc.) will almost always have one or two Abita's on tap. And it's very widely available in bottles.

Haven't had that Harvest Lager but their Fall Fest was damned good. Abita is very underrated as a brewery, imho. They do a good job. If you ever get a chance to visit, I recommend it. Drive across Lake Ponchartrain (sp?) and meander through the swamps for 10 miles. They also have a restaraunt there, or at least they did pre-Katrina.

this is the weekend I'm supposed to be in South Louisiana, eating Popeye's and downing a few dozen Abita's (various flavors).

Pluckers up north used to have Purple Haze on tap. They don't even sell Abita beer anymore. *******.

If you're ever in Louisiana, you must have the Restoration Ale. It is amazing. Unfortunately, they don't sell it in Texas.
