Abandoned houses in S. Austin

Ok, I was just randomly thinking about this.

I remember about 12 years ago my cousins had moved to Austin and were living in an apartment somewhere in South Austin while their house in Circle C was being built. Anyway, somewhere near their apartment was this village of abandoned houses. It was in the woods a bit though. I was pretty young at this time so my memory isn't perfect but they seemed like they were maybe built in the 20's or 30's. They were all like 1 or 2 rooms or so; very small. All of them were wood framed I believe. I think it was sorta in a valley or near a creek or something.

Does anyone know where this is or if it still exists? Also what is the story behind this little camp of houses?

I figured if anyone would know it would be hornfans.

Sounds like that street that cuts through from South 1st (or Congress?) to Manchaca, just north of Slaughter. It's like another world down there.

These were houses you could walk through and stuff. They were like completely abandoned.

I don't remember there being a road through them though...

That sounds like the right area though...

Yeah, it's probably Dittmar. We rented an apartment on Slaughter when we were remodeling our house in 2003 or so, and it seemed "close", but it was probably well over a mile away.

Could it be some of those house clusters on one big lot in Travis Heights near Stacy Park? I can't remember too many apartments near there, either, except down on Live Oak, Oltorf, etc.
