Aaron Williams was the top player in 2008

I remember the fuss when A. Williams was moved to the top spot in the state over RJ Washington and Steven Good. Now it looks like the right call now.

Sure, but he is a 2 year starter compared to the other guys who cannot crack the starting lineup or almost the two deep. Good was supposed to be all world, but do you realize they played a TE at G over Good at G.

I was excited when he sacked Bradford and put him out of the game(game changer).

I was excited when he made that tremendous interception in the 4th qtr.

Overall, I am very excited to have him starting for us. He's a playmaker.

A couple of times he did a great job of fending off a blocker to turn a wide play back inside. I'll be watching number 4 more closely in the coming weeks. The guy is a stud.

Plus, he made the TD saving tackle on their long pass play on their first posession. Ended up holding them to 3.

Outside of his missed tackle on Ryan Broyles, Aaron Williams played the best game of any longhorn, along with Earl Thomas. They were easily the mvp of this game, and IMO our two most important players on defense (along with Lamar Houston).

The last list I can find is the 2008 Texas Rivals 100. It is from 1/21/08. Williams is #4 behing Washington, Good, and Calhoun.

He might have been #1 on the LSR though I can't remember. Washington could be a true difference maker once he gets his chance. He is 3rd string right now as a redshirt frosh I believe but they are stacked on the line. Good has had some injuries. Right now he has been average and I would agree that Williams was a better prospect and is a better player now than him. Calhoun and Johnson have not played much at RB for OU yet. I think they will get their chances though next year and we'll see how good they really are.

Williams likely should have been in the top 2 or 3 for sure. He is a player.

Monroe was rated high as a DB. He has been special in special teams and I can't wait to see him play WR in the future. I can see them utilizing him like USC did Bush a few years ago. The guy can play special teams, WR, and RB. Move him around and allow him to make plays.

Hales is ranked #8 on that list. That is a guy that I really want to see play WR. He looks like a playmaker and we need to get him on the field more similar to Goodwin.

Interesting to see Randall way down there at #29. He seems to be an absolute beast back there at DT.

David Snow at #25 has outplayed his ranking. He should be considered a top 10 prospect within the state. Played as a true frosh and rivals Huey for playing time at times now as a true sophomore.

E. Acho ranked #60. Man were those guys wrong about this kid. He and his brother are playmakers for sure.

Tre Newton at #54 also seems like a guy that could outplay his ranking.

This post is a reach.
There are some health issues with Good that even our own fanbase is unaware. That is the primary reason for his lack of PT this season.

Washington is in a stacked
personnel group. Him not playing doesn't mean a whole lot to me. The same holds true for Calhoun. He has 2 successful multi-year starters ahead of him on the depth chart.

Aaron was fortunate to walk into a situation where there was no established presence at his position. He played considerably as a true frosh and that has carried over this year. He was a good player when he was ranked and remains a good player now.

The post can't be a reach if you basically just repeated and agreed with most of what was said. And if AW was a sooner he'd be the best player in your secondary by far!

OUE, did Good sustain another injury after her labral repair? that would be a bummer. is it another shoulder injury?

aside from the humanity of the kid, injury problems should be why a prospect is ranked lower.

Our 2008 class is representing pretty well on the field. With the exception of Jarvis Humphrey and D.J. Grant (illness/injury) and Dravannti Johnson everyone else we signed off the Rivals Top 100 is on the depth chart and/or contributing on Special Teams. On the subject of the post, Aaron Williams reminds me of Jerry Gray.

Bruhman, how was what I posted a rehash of what was already said? The OP was insinuating that Good and Washington are 'busts' while Williams high ranking is the only ranking of those three which can be validated.

I think it's a reach to make such a conclusion about Good and Washington.

Good has been battling a respiratory infection of some kind and has lost about 20lbs. since just before the season began. If he'd been beaten out due to poor play -- given our thin offensive line -- then I'd agree that his ranking might have been off a bit, but that hasn't been the case.

Washington is simply lost in the shuffle due to a crazy deep defensive end rotation.

And before you go nominating Aaron for the Thorpe and proclaiming him better than anything OU has, go watch Brian Jackson's performance on Saturday. He shut Shipley down on his side of the field, which pretty much no one has done for the last 2 years. Just sayin'.

Robert Griffin at #42 made me giggle.

It didnt make me giggle as much as Calhoun as a 5 star. I dont buy that OU is stacked at RB and thats why he doesnt get to play much. They rushed for minus -16 yards against Texas. I understand a lot of that is because the OU OL sucks pretty hard, but if he was all that and a bag of chips you couldnt keep him off the field. I have thought ever since I saw him play in high school he wasnt going to be all that special at the D-1 level

I don't think te OP was saying Good and Washington are busts. Just that Williams has proven that he is the best player of that class.

Sure he has some room to improve but as a true sophomore he has proven to be a very good cover corner as well as a guy that just makes plays. He has a knack for strippin the ball and is rangy and athletic to make INTs on plays like he did in the 4th QTR in the RRS. Good had injuries in HS and has had injuries in colllege. I think he has alot of potential but those injuries were always reason enough to move him down to 5th or 6th best player in the state. Calhoun had character issues coming out. I am wondering if those have resolved. I do find it strange that both Calhoun and Johnson aren't getting any carries. They have been on campus for 2 years now.

If any of those three players end up as good as Aaron Williams, I'd be pretty dam happy if I were an OU fan.

Jackson didn't cover Shipley one on one, putting 2 or 3 guys in the area of Shipley was a smart (and easy) scheme by Venables/Stoops, especially knowing that GD wouldn't adjust for at least 30 minutes. We also remember Jackson getting completely abused by Quan last year in the RRS. I've actually been impressed with him besides last year's game against us. He's gone after this year right?

Lamar Houston is by far and away our best defensive player thus far this year. 2nd group includes Kindle, Williams, Muckelroy and Acho(not sure which one). Third group would be the secondary and rest of the DLine. 4th group is Keenan Robinison.
