Superficially they sound the same. Liam Neeson goes after a bunch of bad guys who aren't just designated film villians- they are really evil because of how cruel they are to women. The trailers make them even more similar by emphasizing the "they'll pay for what the did to my [wife/daughter]" angle and the "Liam magnificently kicks everyone's *** up and down the block all movie long" angle.
But Tombstones isn't really like that second part. In this movie he's much more about guile, investigating facts, and outwitting the bad guys, than he is about being a hand-to-hand combat badass. While Taken had some of that stuff too, in that movie he's a commando, and in Tombstones he's a detective. Not saying one is better or worse, just trying to set expectations.
Also, Tombstones is a lot darker than Taken. In Taken the seriousness of human trafficking does get addressed, but it's mostly a plot excuse to see an action hero vanquish his foes. Tombstone's thugs are even more misogynistic, sadistic, and psychotic, and they have more of active role in driving the plot throughout the movie. I'd actually caution that while what's visual and visible isn't exceptionally graphic, some of the scenes could still involve some traumatic triggering for anyone who's been through a sexual assault.
