Yeah, what's the price?

Can he flip it with the fire box to the rear, or would that screw with the weight & balancing?

How about adding a vertical warming box?

How dialed in are the thermometers (mostly by location)? That can often be the Achilles Heel of a smoker, bad placement or thermometer design.

Does he have a drain nut or valve in the bottom of the smoke box?

Is there any kind of elevation in the firebox to allow for better wood burning without ash buildup?

What's the approximate weight?

How long does it take to build them? What's that wooden shelf made of?

The pit prices vary by what size and options you want. This is a 24in pipe with a 2ftx2ft box and it ranges from 2100-2600 bucks. If have shopped for any kind of quality pit you know that once you put in one on ANY kind of trailer the price shoots up. The well know pit builds (Klose, Bates) are extremely expensive examples.
The LinkThe Link

Once you add gas log starter, fish fryer/burner, any custom work, framed grates, dampers, firebox grill, you start talking some serious cash. I have been in the market for a long time.

There has been so many PMs, so here you are: the guys name is Pedro Hernandez his number 512 635 9769 (if you call make it after 5pm). He lives in Leander and really nice. He build these on his time off. He can add a vertical box if wanted. Really you come to him with the designs and he will build to your specs.

The thermometers are small and cheap, I was going to replace them but they work surprising well. I keep oven thermometers on the grates so I can always know the grate temp.

All the grates are framed and slide out. The fire box has and adjustable grate at the lowest setting its 4 in off the bottom of the box. You can also grill on with the firebox if you want, it to has a framed grate. It also has an adjustable damper between the firebox and main chamber.

Weight, I am not sure, i would think 850-1050lbs. It takes him about 1-2 months. For some reason I have received a lot of question on the shelf??? The shelf is made of fence wood, he put a grinder to it to burn it and give it a little character. It can always be replaced with what ever I don’t really care it does a good job of holding my beer and digital thermometers.

Intelligent dog, poor execution.

I'll have to take some photos tomorrow @ the Dripping Springs Founder's Day cookoff (Day III) of what I consider to be about the 'perfect' small to medium smoker (minus the great Longhorn emblems the smoker in this thread shows).

For the purposes of this, "passenger side" means the same side of a vehicle if it was still connected to a trailer hitch with the smokebox off the tail end.

It has:
---A somewhat longer & wider smoker chamber / main body (bigger doors but not so much that it needs counterbalancing weights)
---Smokebox doors opening to the center / has a walkway in the middle (prevents passers by from opening your smokebox doors & killing the chamber heat & there's always one knucklehead who doesn't know any better & wants a peek).
---Fold down sink on the passenger side with a hose connection to a faucet, connect a PVC pipe to drain into a 5 gal. bucket.
---Large fold up / down shelf on the driver's side.
---Firebox off the tail.
---Propane burner, back passenger corner (near the firebox); this one is made out of an old steel car wheel; I much rather prefer the one this OP has pictured.
---Smokebox is elevated off the trailer floor high enough to allow for plenty of wood storage.
---Walkway between the smokebox & 'driver's side wall / wall' is large enough to store canopies, chairs, storage bins, etc.
---Similar to the OP, it's got a flat topped firebox however this one is built with the optional swap in of a grilling rack or jap popper tray.
---Metal tube in the back corner of the walkway for a large umbrella.

I think the only five things I'd ask for differently is:

---Metal pole over the sink area with a hook to hang a solar shower type bag for hot water.
---Flat top lid to the firebox for beans, sauce warming, frying pans, etc.
---A bit of a longer tongue to allow for something like cooler storage & a spare propane tank.
---A few other metal tubes for flying Texas & Longhorn flags off the trailer rig in 'strategic' spots.
---Offset 2nd smokebox (I have a soft spot for a warming box or lighter fish smoking).

I don't know if this one has an adjustable baffle (allows you an additional tuning location between the firebox & smokebox) & I didn't get a chance to look for a grease drain.

Related sidebar: A good unit with grilling on the firebox end will also have a grease drain on this area as well + no lip of any kind on the firebox so you can really get to all the ash. I'm personally not partial to a square bottom for the firebox over square so long as the wood rack is high enough, although a round base gives the ashes less of a chance to hide in a corner... so I guess I like round better.

OK, end of Rox's threadjack & dissertation on what he wants in a smoker.

How much does he have to pay to be able to use the Bevo logo? It would suck when the UT copyright lawyers come and make him pay a shitload for back royalties.

I think the issue here is that you asked the welder if they put a drain on the smoke box.

The drain would be needed in the main chamber (where the meat goes) and not in the smoke box, where your charcoal/wood/fire is.

I have a 1in pipe with a brass ball valve on the exhaust side of the cooker for a grease drain.

With Memorial Day right around the corner I am looking forward to posted pictures of yalls bbq come next Tuesday.

Rox what happened to the Founder Day pics, if you got’em postem.

bigg78,

You, sir, are confused for sure & possibly a drunk. Pending confirmation, I'll go with confused.

Smokebox is where the smoke goes, firebox is where the fire goes.

Smokebox = food side
Firebox = wood side.
