A spot or 2 for JUCOs?

With all the reports how awesome our two Juco players are doing in spring practice, do you think Mack might start saving a couple of spots for after the next season to see who emerges at the JUCO level and make an offer for a player or two?

I can see how we won't if everyone we offer says yes and we just don't have room. But if we don't land but 3 or 4 of the last 6 we've offered that's in HS right now is what I'm wondering.

I think the critical element is the roster slots and how many we have in each class. You dont want 35 seniors because of the limits on each incomming class. That and how much pizza each one eats and the beer consumption levels relative to body mass index.

I believe Mack will avoid going the JUCO route unless there is a significant lack of capable depth on-board like was the case at OT and DT this year. With the 2012 and 2013 classes, it appears some of the thin positions are being restocked with quality players so the need for JUCO fill-ins is reduced. That being said, a top-notch DB or two would be welcome in the 2013 class - JUCO or HS.

I hope he does. Due to attrition the coaches will continually find themselves in a position of quick need a postion or 2 here or there. And they may need to go this route if what they want is simply not available that year.

I believe the only reason Mack used the 2 JUCO players this year is for a quick fix. I am hoping after this year we dont need a quick fix. But if these players dominate this year like they have spring ball then im sure Mack will keep his options open

You'd have to think that we're saving a spot in case Quincy Russell comes back from his grades purgatory. But I wouldn't hold my breath for anyone other than him.

It kind of used to be this way in the 80s- early 90s. Guys would be pretty high credit risks and commit anyhow (like Shon Mitchell) and then show up a year or two later. Then we got away from that under Mack, with the notable exception of Alfio Randall.

Once you get the depth back - no reason to JUCO unless someone goes early to the NFL or injury causes a big hole at a position.
