a small digital camera...

i know next to nothing about digital cameras. My own digital camera seems like the first one ever made - 1.3 megapixel olympus. it's easy to use but bulky and pics are not great.
So, I am going to Europe. I would like a small digital camera to take with me - not necessarily teeny tiny, but small as in pocket sized I guess, easy to fit in a purse/backpack. I really can only spend around $175-$200, but i'm no professional and just want something to document my trip, not to particpate in photography contests. Anyone have any recommendations for brands, types, how many megapixels would be worth the $$?

Don't forget. Your total photos will be limited by the size memory card. By the time you get enough memory, you won't have a lot to spend on the camera.

You're better off spending $200 on film.

When we got our camera we splurged on a 512MB card. In hindsight I probably would have bought the 1GB instead, but it's nice to not really have to worry about running out of room. On my camera (not sure if this is with all of them) you can change the size of each picture you take. The smaller the resolution (?) the more pictures you can hold on a memory card.
