A Question...

That's Right

If the Titans had the same record with VY at QB, and he had the exact same stats as Kerry Collins, do you think people would be as high on the Titans? First off, let me say that this has nothing to do with race, I do not think any serious analyst or columnist would do that. However, based on VY's image and maybe even the image in general of former UT football players right now, do you think there would be as many people saying the Titans are "the favorites to win the Super Bowl", the "#1 team in the league", etc. What got me to thinking about this: I'm watching NFL Live and they're picking each game of the week, and I expected at least one guy to pick Baltimore, but both analysts (Schlereth and Wiley) said that Tennessee was too dominant up front and that they had a future superstar in Chis Johnson. That surprised me.

The reason the Titans did not make the playoffs one year was due to the poor play of Collins. VY got 'em close though. Collins is pedestrian, at best. But it seems like VY is learning from him, he is giving it his best and the team needed him when VY went down. If Collins continues to play it is not his fault.

VY gets a raw deal on many fronts. Many are obviously still pissed he ruined their Trojan party a couple of years ago.

I totally believe they would be high on the Titans w/ VY at QB.

I believe they are the story so far in the NFL...There lines are very very good and the running game is really good. Collins isn't a great QB, he just isn't making too many mistakes (reminds me of the Ravens title run w/ Dilfer)

To answer your question if the Titans were 4-0 they WOULD be ravving about VY, D-Line, Running Game

Great point, UTFan. I would love some Bears input on that comparison as I think the owners of the Bears were so stubborn with the suck that is Rex Grossman with that in mind. They figured their defense was the same as Baltimore's then and that their suck qb could do what Dilfer did. But see, Dilfer did not make bonehead mistakes, Grossman thrives on them. The defense could not bail him out when needed.

I still think VY would not get the credit he would be deserving. Too many haters on him. People still like to talk about the Wonderlic test as well as the lies about him wanting to kill himself. A false story comes out, they run with it. It gets retracted or real facts come out, they deny them and say they are a cover up and still run with the untruths.

VY won't ever get the respect he deserves by some, ever. It will take him longer to get it from others copared to a host of other qbs. Leinart could win 3 games in a row and get more press to this day.

IMHO.

I think we'd be regarded as a top 5 or 6 team probably, but I'm not sure about "Super Bowl favorite" (that came out of Merril Hoge's mouth btw). That being said, I am a Titans fan, not a VY fan, and as long we keep winning, I am loving it. I was telling someone yesterday I'd be be ecstatic if Kerry Collins led us to a Super Bowl win, even if it meant VY didn't start or barely play the whole season. It will be Vince's team again eventually, and I'm not against him learning behind a vet for a while.

l00p. About the Leinart comment. I am from and live in AZ

The fans hate and are turning on Leinart. They think he is a pretty boy who has talent, but isn't making the effort/strides to become an elite QB. The press in AZ are slowly starting to say it too.

I think the reason there is a lot of DESERVING criticism towards VY is that he was an extremely hyped going into the draft (rightfully so) and he hasn't quite lived up to it (regardless about the WR, Coaches, ETC...it ALWAYS falls on the QB). Maybe he needs a different setting, but the criticism will not end and get worse if he doesn't start playing to the level he can.

I don't necessarily agree with a lot of excuses on why VY hasn't performed the way he has. He has plenty of time though to make good on it!

On the Bears topic...I think that is why they are playing pretty good football...defense is stellar again (run defense...their pass defense is pretty bad though) Kyle Orton seems like a smart QB. Doesn't have a big arm and not mobile BUT doesn't make killer mistakes and is smart. There are a lot of franchises I can think of right now would love just a smart QB lol

AZ,. I did not mean the fans in Arizona. I assume they are wise to that dude. I meant the media that is so quick to jump on VY and yet not to give him praise when he does things right. I think they would tout Leinart all day long. I could have made that more clear, sorry.

Everyone needs to be patient. The reason that Vince played his rookie year was because Kerry Collins was ineffective as QB for the Titans. Collins is not making many mistakes at the moment and is the right choice at this point and time to be the starting QB.
Vince Young is the future of the Titans and needs time to take a deep breath and sort his personal life out. The Titans are on a roll and need to do everything to keep up the momentum. Everything will work itself out.
