Let's start with Mack and comments he made prior to the Banquet beginning at the FEC and has been reported on paysites, tweeted & showing up in the AA-S...
1. On the topic of adding a Qb via recruiting...
Mack said the coaching staff will have a meeting on Sunday on whether to add either a junior-college or senior/graduate college transfer Qb. He didn’t rule out the chance it might happen.
2. On the topic of Vaccaro & Okafor returning for next year...
Mack said he wasn't feeling like either one of them will even sniff it (The NFL Draft!)... he said he thinks they’re ready to win a bowl game, go back to spring practice and try to have a great year next year.
Take all that with a great of salt... Vaccaro tweeted prior to the banquet... "To declare or not to declare? That is the question!!" I read over on Hookem.com that Vaccaro is expecting a child and has openly talked about taking care of his mom after he leaves school. I'm sure a lot of what Kenny does will depend on what his draft stock is & what rounds he'll be projected to be drafted.
And by the way, Fozzy won multiple awards last night & received a STANDING ovations from the several hundreds in attendance!
The committed attendees were...
All verbally committed recruits where there except those 5 still involved in the playoffs.... Gray, Overstreet, Estelle, Thomas Johnson & Jinkens. these 5 will have their own Official Visit on the weekend of January 20 along with Caleb Bluiett from Beaumont (West Brook) who had to cancel in the middle of this past week due to an illness in the fam. Oh... new commitments "The Hawk" & Brandon Moore were not in attendance because they already had 'tripped' the weekend of the K-St. game.
Recruits w/ offers in attendance were... DE Mario Edwards Jr. (FSU commit), Torshiro Davis (LSU commit) & Adrian Colbert (Baylor commit). All would have to be considered soft commits since they all are still taking other visits. Two other recruits not in attendance that have been offered are WR Dorial Beckham-Green who took his official visit the weekend of the K-St. game and DB/S Landon Collins (Geismar, La.) who had to cancel this past week due to his younger brother's state playoff game on Sat. in N.O. He's a long shot and it's between LSU & Alabama with Texas a distant 3rd...
I can't spill all the beans from Hookem.com, but I can say that Adrian Colbert was tweeting he was looking forward to the "ATx trip"... Colbert was enjoying himself at the banquet hanging with the 2012 class & Edwards was getting along quite well with his host, Jackson Jeffcoat. It was hard to tell if Torshiro Davis enjoyed the night because he spent time with his relative/friend that he came with.
If Texas strikes out with Colbert, they still have time to put the hard press on Tennessee commit LaDarrell McNeil of Wilmer-Hutchins who has opened up his recruiting is out taking visits...
Texas is also staying in touch CB Corey Coleman (Baylor commit) and RB/WR Daniel Brooks (Ou commit), Daje Johnson (TCU Commit)... these 3 were not at the football banquet last night... depending on the attrition numbers, one, two or all three of the above could be offered in the coming weeks.
Who knows, Trey Williams might open things up if he doesn't like hearing that the next HC of the ATM is Sumlin! Stranger things have happened to 17/18 yr. olds...
