A lesson in recruiting!

In the mid 70s we lost a recruiting war with Oklahoma when RB Billy Sims of Hooks, Texas decided to go there instead of UT. He became a great star there and in pro football winning the Heisman Trophy in 1978 as a junior.
But we held our own against him (1976-1979) by recruiting top defensive linemen such as Freer's Steve McMichael. With great defensive play and coaching we held our own those four years against Oklahoma losing one game and winning two with one tie. Hopefully we should be able to do the same with Mr. Scott who decided to go to Colorado at the last minute because we got some good defensive players recruited with more to come.
We also did the same thing with Mr. Peterson who decided to go to Oklahoma even though he dreamed of coming to UT but didn't have the vision that VY and UT were to become. He just thought he could win an NC at Oklahoma. True he won two big 12 championships but his teams got embarassed twice in bowl games and lost to UT 2 of his 3 years and no NC.

You actually think the talent around Scott is on par with what OU had around Peterson?

I don't see Colorado in the top 25 of either of these lists. In fact, Scout has the Buffs with the #35 recruiting class for 2007. Even with D. Scott, the 2008 class doesn't crack Scout's Top 25, either. Why don't you go ahead and argue for the relative strength of Scott's supporting cast, I'll hang up and listen.

Those Oklahoma teams were loaded, not only did they have Sims they had kenny king, david overstreet and on and on. heck their third team roster from those years were more talented than colorado will be this year. Those games between Texas and oklahoma in the late seventies and early eighties were some of the most physical games I can remember. And for years we always played Arkansas the week after OU. We had a couple of seaesons there where we were just physically spent after those two games. Seems like one year maybe 79, or 80 that we had lost some 6 or 7 starters due to injury after the Ou, arkansas games.

Recruiting rankings mean nothing to me. I would rather watch the videos and judge for myself. But we can only wait and see how they turn out.

My personal opinions:

Please!

Groundbreaking opportunity!

There is a desperate need for anyone that can give a lesson in recruiting.

Must have experience in

(1) recruiting above the lower level two and three star players, and

(2) especially the four and five star level, both stopping wholesale decommits and

(3) stopping losing over forty head to heads for four and five star players!

An immediate and desperate need has existed this past year at both the A&M football and basketball offices.
