A gun for a present

My son is 40 years old today, so I figured he is old enough now.

Instead of giving him the usual cash in the card, I thought he would appreciate his late grandma's bedside table gun - a S&W Model 36 Chief's Special (.38 Special).
I bought it new for her decades ago - it has less than one box of shells through it, and comes with the original box, cleaning rod & papers (including the wrapper). It's been a safe queen since the MIL passed away in '95, so it didn't take much oilin' up to look like NIB.

Threw in a couple boxes of .38 SP round nose and a gun rug.

He's planning on getting his Texas CHL, so I figured this J frame would give him a good start on his quest for a personal carry weapon.

Will give it to him when we go over to his house after work.

I gave him my Model 13 when he turned 25, so this will compliment it well.

But he can't have my SP101 .357 yet........not for a loooong time, hopefully

Good choice ScoPro. I've always liked the .38 Special as a reliable, effective self-defense handgun. My son is only 12, so we're only at the .22 bolt-action rifle stage right now.

Sounds like a great gift. I'm sure you already know this, but make sure he completes his CHL class with a semi-auto. That way he has the option to carry either semi-auto or revolver in the future.

Nice gift.

If he doesn't already have a safe, you might want to throw in a lock box or trigger guard, especially if you have grandchildren in his house.
