anyone have a good-proven recipe for gin and tonic? My brother in-laws father took his recipe to the grave-- great drink when made well

also, what would you call tequilla, triple sec and grape fruit juice?

1. gin + tonic + ice

2. horrible. triple sec is disgusting and a quick way to ruin a beverage.

*apologies to pancho negro for the uppitiness of my reply.

1) Bombay Saphire + Tonic + Lime + Ice

2) Ghey

1) what kind of question is this? whats your recipe for a rum and coke? gin and tonic is as simple as it sounds. the only variations are in the quality of gin, tonic, limes, and ice. thats about as complicated as it gets dude. the only way you can screw it up is in the proportions, but they pretty much make most highball glasses idiotproofed to leave the right amount of volume after a shotglass of liquor.

2) grapefruit margarita. ive had my share, and they aint bad. its straight out of one of southern livings holiday cookbooks.

In my opinion, a gin and tonic is one of the few drinks that really tastes much better the stronger it is. A weak gin and tonic tastes absolutely terrible, while a weak rum and coke just takes like a coke with not enough kick.

I usually go two shots of gin, splash of tonic and then squeeze the lime and drop it in. Good stuff.

I used to (and still do drink) sapphire a lot, but if you ever find citadelle gin anywhere, you should try it.

I really like sapphire, but if the bartender doesn't mix it in exactly the right proportions, it loses a lot of its magnificence. Citadelle is a lot more forgiving in the bartender - a little too much and its not terrible.

I hate when you go to a bar and the bartender thinks he's doing you a favor by mixing you a super strong sapphire and tonic - I'm not 21 any more, I don't need to be waster after 15 minutes. Mix the drink right.

I drink bourbon mostly, but a gin/tonic after a hot day is OK by me. After two of them, the skin on my head feels like a drumhead though. I think it is the quinine in the tonic.

3 oz. gin (Gordons or better), 1/4 lime-squeezed, 3 or 4 large ice cubes, then fill the highball glass with tonic.

Classic example of two wrongs making a right. Tonic by itself is nearly toxic, and the taste of gin, even good ones like Tanqueray, Bombay, and Beefeater, is borderline repellant. Maybe it is some redeeming properties of the lime. Not sure, but I do like them, but no more than two.

I am not generally a fan of gin and tonic, but my father in law has an excellent recipe. He only uses Boodles gin, but he professes the secret is to use ONLY fresh tonic (opened within the hour).
