The last few days the central A/C unit has not been blowing very cold, just barely keeping the house at 82 degrees this afternoon. Anybody have good experiences recently in the greater Austin area with A/C repair companies?
***UPDATE***

Turns out will need a new interior coil, old one was 20 years old and totally clogged with dirt, etc. Being an oider unit, it was built as to be totally unaccessable and uncleanable. So preventive maintenace wouldnt have helped. Will probably have to pull the furnace out to install the new coils. Total for new coil and labor....$1800, $250 less if they dont have to pull the furnace out. Best part is, they cant do the job till a week form today. So its going to be a hot, humid sweaty week with lots of box fans.

I do some work with Hank's A/C; he has me installing solar powered attic fans for him.

If you call, tell them you got their info from Mark with Ranch Hand Roofing. Probably won't get you a discount, but it will probably help me.

IMO, this is one of those things in life where you want a large enough co. to stand up for their techinical work & one that has the experience, however you don't need the largest co. in town...

Just a quick word of warning, if both your indoor and outdoor unit are running and it's not putting out cold air, you're likely low on refrigerant, which means you have a leak somewhere in the system. Depending on where it is and how old your system is, you may be looking at replacing part or all of it.

We just had a leaky coil in our 20+ year old system and ended up replacing the indoor and outdoor units. Works like a charm now, but the old wallet is a little sore.

Based on the recommendation of this board, we've been using Air Conditioner Specialist on Burnet for the last 7 years and they're great. They're a locally owned business who's been around for 40 years or so, and two years ago when our A/C died in the middle of the summer they had a guy come out at 8:30 at night just because we were previous customers. That's enough for me...
