A/C Repair

Do any of ya'll have a trusted shop to take my 02 Dodge in to?

The A/c loses it's cool when I idle but is fine when I accelerate so I figured it needs a recharge or something. It has about 51,000 miles on it so I am hoping this won't be too major.

Any of your own good exp. with a similar situation would be appreciated.

My shop can handle the Civic, as we specialize in Honda and Toyota. It seems a little early for the fan motor to be bad, but anything can happen-could be the switch or wiring-we are in north Austin, phone # 670-1275. Thank you.
We could do the Dodge if it is just a recharge, but sometimes something weird is going on with A/C, so it would be better to get someone who regularly works on that kind of car-you might charge it up, put leak detecting dye in the system, and find the evaporator core is leaking, or something like that where you wouldn't want someone who has never worked on that kind of car attempting the repair. It wouldn't be low if it wasn't leaking, but some leaks take a year or more to become noticeable, so just recharging might be OK.

They said that there is a fan out in the front right corner of my truck which costs 450 to fix.

Anyone able to validate this before I drop the change?

This should be placed in the Around Austin forum. Glad you got your info.

I have had good luck at Capitol Tire and Automotive on 6th street across the street from Hula Hut.

They've done several repairs on my '97 Trans Am and it almost always comes out less than I expect:

~$250 for a full brake job w/new pads and rotors
-fixed my a/c for $10 when they saw the problem was just a simple valve
-changed my spark plugs and put on thicker aftermarket wires for ~$175, I was quoted $600 for the same thing a block down at C Van R, it's a PITA to get to some of the plugs on this car

A few other minor things done there too. I still have the TA but hope they can work on my Infiniti when it needs service.
