A/C Fan Not Turning

OK, while pulling up the carpet at the house I tried out the air conditioner, which is relatively new, and it wasn't putting out any air. I went and checked out the A/C unit, and the motor is trying to run but the fan won't turn. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem is and if there is anything I can do to fix it before I shell out a bunch of loot for a tech to come look at it?

It could be that the motor on the fan itself is out. We had that problem last summer. It sounded like the fan was trying to turn, but was locked up.

Anyway, we had a guy come out and he replaced the fan motor. I think it set us back about $85.00.

[captain obvious] Check the fuse/breaker. There should be two of them. If only one of the two has tripped/blown, it could cause a situation like you describe.[/captain obvious]

The fan motors do burn out after a few years. Don't run the compressor without the fan turning-it will ruin the compressor. I replaced mine myself, wasn't too bad, about a year ago. Otherwise, call the repairman.

Man, our A/C unit went out on friday. Fuckin' sucks. Luckly we have a homeowner warranty to pay for it but, you have to wait like 3 days for them to approve the new unit. The *******.

Do you have fire ants?

They LOVE electricity and may have got into the electrical parts and shorted out the relay. We had that happen and they repair guy came out and cleaned them out and sprayed some stuff in there that keeps the ants out.

Mine did the same thing at the beginning of this summer, turned out to be the capacitor. Mine was under warranty, and took the guy about 20 minutes to change out.

P.S. Unit was less than a year old.

is your A/C still not functioning? If so, let me know (i.e. pm or email). I have used a small family owned business here in town for about 10 years for my home and several rental proporties that I own. I have recommended the compnay to family, friends and coworkers w/o any hesitation. Honest, resonably priced and doesn't charge overtime (at least I've never been charged OT). Trust them enough to let them in my home when wife and daughters are there and I'm not.
