a buying frenzy is on for assault rifles

I saw a young couple buy an AR. They were waving it around all over the store with no concept of gun safety whatsoever. If it had been my store I would have grabbed it back and told them to get the **** out. The price had nearly doubled between the time they bought it and when they picked it up.

I bought one just after the last election and told everybody I knew that they'd better do the same if they ever intended to own one.

The run on ARs started back in the fall. People knew the ban hammer was coming, if BO was reelected, way before Sandy Hook. Sandy Hook just gives the Demos ammunition (pun intended) to push their "war on guns" like Sandra Fluke advanced their "war on women" mythology. You know, never let a crisis go go waste.

Hopefully the Republicans in the House will save us even though the Left will brand them as being in bed with Lanza, James Holmes, and all the rest of the crazies.

won't be hard to find a gun on the secondary market regardless. if you feel that you need to be armed better than most law enforcement then there is another issue there.

anybody have stats on how many legally owned ARs are already on the market in the US? and what happens with these once the person passes away?

I keep seeing Fed gov't stats that show gun violence/ killings are down ( except in Chicago)
and are really down in states with less restrictive gun laws

I don't won a gun and I do not really know but if the stats are true this is an over reaction
and maybe a case of never letting a crisis go to waste.
Rahm should take his own advice and so something to stop the killing in his coty.
Over 500 killings so far THIS YEAR
I understand why people are buying guns.

I am a lifelong and self admitted gun nut. I grew up with a father that taught strict gun safety. We ate deer meat 3 times a week, I killed my first at the age of 7. Seeing those people whose only gun knowledge comes from movies leads me to believe there really should be a gun safety course and license before ownership.

I'd buy one too, but I can't afford to spend $18,000 on an M16.

I do own an AR-15 though. It's not an assault rifle because it doesn't shoot full auto.

Right and the general public is aware that you have to spend a fraction of a second between each trigger pull so you could only shoot a dozen rounds in the time it Marquis Goodwin to run 40 yards rather than dozens or rounds like our military guys do.

Based on my experience discussing "assault rifles" with various individuals, I would be interested in knowing what percentage of adults in this country think that the AR15 is fully automatic firearm. I would bet it is pretty high.

The guest host of the Dennis Praeger Show was discussing the nationwide "run on guns" today. It's not just on ARs, it's a run on all kinds of guns and ammo.

The run on guns is so tremendous that one guy was canceling some gun shows because he can't get enough ammo to sell.

It's so bad that crazy old Sen. Chuck Shumer of NY was talking about asking merchants to not sell any more ARs until the Demos can act. Ha, ha, ha what a dumbass. The good news for Demos is that they may not need to pass any gun laws because there'll be no guns or ammo to buy.

Perhaps the Demos should ask themselves why are people lining up to buy every gun they can get their hands on? Is it because they fear the path that the American government is on?

"Perhaps the Demos should ask themselves why are people lining up to buy every gun they can get their hands on? Is it because they fear the path that the American government is on?"

I'm not a Demo, but I did just ask myself this question. The answer came back "no, it's only because they are gun nuts".

a friend of mine owns a gun store and he reports that the stuff was flying off the shelf. I sold two of my semis at a gun show because I was getting twice what I paid for them.

Sell when the market is up and buy when it goes down.

people are afraid the economy is going to collapse and widespread looting will occur and roving bands will be doing house raids. In that case, a pistol or shotgun is a lot better weapon imo unless you live in the country. ANd theammo for them is cheaper,

Who knows someone who seriously believes anarchy is a real possibility?

Which is more likely- true anarchy in the US, or the possibility that a person has insecurities that are resolved by feeling 'empowered'?

Working out at the gym made me feel 'tough' when I was in high school and college. Today, I think life experiences like travels, work experience, raising a strong, happy family- that's bragging rights to me. Not, "hey dude, come check out the M-16 in the garage. It can tear stuff up."

I can tell you this, the path and direction this country is on is one that makes me consider other government alternatives.

While at one time, I thought a Republic of Texas thing was kind of a joke, I have looked at it seriously in the past couple of recent years.

The way that looks like a large number of the people in this country want to be governed is different than the way that I want to be governed.

My pride in America is not what it once was.....

When I think about it, it started with the vile, hatred and just straight out lies that were thrown at George W Bush.

The liberals in the 1960's threw their hatred to our soldiers and in the 2000's they directed it towards the President.

Now they are throwing it at the Tea Party and Gun Owners, who is next for your hatred, vile and lies?

Suppose there was a threat to impose a ban on V-8 engines in trucks, and/or engines over 250 hp. Then there would be a run on buying those in the new and used markets.

As to 'assault weapons' -- as I understand it, an assault rifle/weapon must have Selective Fire and be able to fire Automatic and/or Burst. All the AR's I believe being sold and owned do not do that. Only Safe or Fire. That is one among other requirements in order to be termed 'assault', but without that level of Selective Fire it is NOT an assault weapon/firearm/rifle. The 'assault' term is strictly political far as I can tell. There is a Wiki page on assault firearms and gives the history and origin of the manufacturing of such firearms and their naming conventions. Average person perceives anything that does not look like a deer rifle, while looking like the silhouette of an AK/AR firearm is right away a machine gun.

Further, a host of gangster type firearms were regulated in 1934 in the National Firearms Act, with many subsequent followups and challenges. Most of us grew up in the last century knowing you could't have a sawed-off shotgun or silencer or machine gun. That was pretty well understood. Then came the latest style of military (and law enforcement) firearms that could be marketed to the public without the selective fire of auto or burst. Add to that the visual media movie tv images of non other than the AK-47, and the perceptions are off and running. Whatever looks like an AK/AR is immediately in the mind an 'assault weapon.'

Far as I can tell it doesn't make much more sense to consider guns like the Ruger Mini-Ranch .223 and variations of the AR15 to be assault weapons anymore than shotguns. A 12-gauge shotgun with 00-buck is absolutely a freaking weapon, I don't care if it's just 2 barrels or a tube on a pump or a semi-auto firing gun.

The AR ("look") is all this is about, plus what it can do. But a .270 or .243 is also a 3,000 fps bullet and just as wicked. IMHO, as I'm not a gun expert, but can read the news and follow events.

I do know this country as always been about the freedom to do and have, while others feel the freedom to say no you cannot do and cannot have. I try to read through all those emotions on both sides. Hard to do, though.

We will also get to the point of arguing over energy efficient vehicles, which has been going on all along. And the side wanting to be more efficient always feels they are more fair, just, wise and intelligent and sensible, and thinking the other side is just a bunch of nuts and jerks. The side wanting to drive whatever the hell they want, also feels justified, freedom-loving and all that goes with that.

It's the same argument -- to a degree -- just waged over different commodities. For some unexplained reason, the society is two-sided and always has been. From the get-go. It's the history of the whole country to be divided over things. And it's hardly ever gray -- it's mostly black and white. It's binary. A one or a zero. Up or down. This or that.

That, to me, is what's nuts.

Major, how did you feel when your hero Bush passed the patriot act? Nothing else even approaches the sinister level of that law. Where were your cries of tyranny?

It wasn't sinister but it truly was stupid. I don't know very many people who thought it was a good idea to create a new government agency. Like we don't have enough already. Who doesn't know that all government agencies grow in cost and scope. And now Obama adds to Bush's f-up and orders hundreds of thousands of rounds of hollow-point ammunition and has the potential to launch 30,000 drones over US cities in the next few years. We are pretty much screwed. But the best defense to government tyranny is not to disarm and this is coming from someone who only owns an antique .22 which may or may not fire.

Good piece Son of a Son.

I doubt that any of the lefties in Congress or on this board care really care what constitutes an "assault rifle" or whether previous mass murderers used 10 bullet magazines instead of 30 bullet mags during the previous "assault weapons ban". They just wanna ban something to make themselves feel better.
