anyone else see that when they string together too many periods? when i go to review my post, it will replace periods with that strand of variables. is this just me? it only happens on hornfans, and it only happens on the first draft, i can do fine on the 2nd draft. anyone know what this means?

I've noticed it in your posts for about the last week or so. I think this is God's way of telling you there are always better options than the ellipsis. I prefer the traditional punctuation devices, such as the M dash, the colon, or even the semicolon. And of course, nothing beats the consistency of the old-fashioned period.

Science denial is one thing; but denying established punctuation protocol is serious business.

it is indeed the ellipses! i figured that out after i had accused the comas. i have a long rich history with laziness and the ellipses, so i am now forced to grow up a bit in my punctuation. oh well!

I remember reading John Irving in college (A Prayer for Owen Meany, so good) and thinking: this guy gets the semicolon. His use of that particular punctuation is unrivaled, in my reading experience.

I agree with Coelacanth on the M dash—perhaps my favorite of all, see there how I worked it in—and the colon: these are highly refined tools of expression. And watch your use of the exclamation point!

it is true dionysus, i am indeed addicted to the exclamation point and to the ellipses. i need help in these areas. A sad reality of my otherwise good grammar is that i am entirely ill-equipped in my use of the semi-colon. i was just thinking last night (again for the umpteenth time) how i need to get online and tutor myself on the proper use of the semi-colon. the truth is, i just never use it.
