8 inning game?

Hey does anyone know why the Texas-OU game only went 8 innings?

The announcer said something about a 4:15 curfew to start a new inning. I haven't seen anything like it in all the games I've been to

I think the ou coaching staff requested the curfew because their flight leaves at 6:30 or something like that.

Not unusual for Sunday games especially where there is a flight home involved. A couple of years ago I remember Augie having hitters deliberately taking time in the bottom of an inning to run out the clock against Stanford on a Sunday game.

72 hour rule. The announcer said a new inning could not start after 4:15 pm on Sunday. It has to do with the fact that OU traveled via plane and according to the Big 12 the teams have 72 hours to play the games.

It was established before the game that no inning would start after 4:15. The puzzling thing to me is why did we bat in the bottom of the 8th since the bottom of the 8th started at 4:15 or 4:16 according to the field clock. The game was over when OU failed to score in the top of the 8th.

Didn't seem to be fair to the Texas kids who batted in the bottom of the 8th. I mean I don't know if Augie has ever met Bob Stoops (I'll bet that Will Rogers never did). But what do you tell the guys? "go out and make an out"? The commentators seemed for awhile to think that the game was over at 4:15 since playing the bottom of the eighth was not going to influence the winner. I don't know if any of the polls give "style points" but it would seem that Texas actually would lose style points. The player's certainly would.

I was at the game and saw what happened. The home and first base umpires walked together
after the last OU out and said a few words. Then Augie joined them from the nearby dugout.
The home umpire and Augie then both shook their heads yes. So Augie was the one who decided
to bat in the bottom of the eighth. The players had nothing to do with it.

There was an announcement over the PA system about the curfew and that the game would
not start the 9th inning. Half the crowd started to leave the ballpark. Everything seemed
bizarre as I started to watch the meaningless play while the crowd moved to the exits. There were
only a total of eight pitches thrown to get the 3 Horns out in the 8th inning. Everything went very quickly.
Since UT had been very patient at the plate throughout the game, the players just went through
the motions quickly to finish the game.

I heard the rule states the inning must be completed, so that's why UT batted in the bottom of the inning.
There is a time limit per the Big XII rule on when the last inning must start, since the traveling team has a plane to catch, but it seems like it would be treated like that inning would become a normal ninth inning, where the home team would win if leading after the top of the inning.
It was a strange conclusion to the game.

Would the game have gone down as a tie if both teams were tied after the 8th or would they postpone the finish for another date?
