8-4

Four losses that were all winnable was extremely frustrating, but actually a huge improvement from 5-7. Yeah, 9-10 wins would have been great, Ewers and Sark could have done better, but we’re definitely trending up, with a bullet :hookem:

Like I said in my prediction thread title for the week. 8-4 is better than 5-7! Remarkable that this season could have been 12-0 right now since we were in a position to win every game this year.

An improvement, but within the context of how the season played out, it could have been soooo much more. Still headed in the right direction and should keep the recruiting class in tact. Hopefully we come out on the plus side of the portal.

9 wins is still possible and would make for a very nice off season. Need to lock in this recruiting class and finish it strong to make this year mean even more.

I couldn’t post cause I was with my Dad watching the game. Fun to watch them ram it down Baylors throat in the 4th quarter! My Dad kept talking about Earl Campbell! Maybe Bijan will return. I’d pay him to advertise my business in the Central Texas region. Hope he stays!

I would love a second crack at TCU for the Big XII championship, so I'll be rooting for Rock Chalk. But Kansas State is an 11 to 12 point favorite, depending on the sports book. And the Jayhawks haven't won in Manhattan in over a decade.

As a consolation prize, I'll take the Horns against the Washington Huskies in the Alamo Bowl on the 29th of December. :hookem:

I know that it is still possible but we don't have the OU luck where 50 things need to align to win the Big XII. I have no faith that KU comes even close to beating KSU. It will be over by the end of the 1st quarter.
I had no faith we would prevail today after the scoop and score, but it turned out better than expected. Keep hope alive!!!

I know it uncool from some to give Ewers any credit, and he looked bad many times, I think Sark didn’t do him any favors. The offense Sark implemented for Card with short passes to DWhit, X, Bijan, etc and let them make plays was a thing of beauty at times, but he completely abandoned that when Ewers returned. Relied on deep throws way too much that Ewers just sucked at. We have at least one more win if he kept the Card offense for him.

Whoever Kyle umlong is his math is way off.
8-4 is not a 60% better than 5-7 but I’ll take it.
We were still in the habit of losing games we had no business losing.

We also had a few quality wins though.

The key here is to follow up on the win today and not piss this momentum away in our bowl game ( or the cg game if Kansas wills it)
Just have to keep winning that’s all.

If this team was 12-0 and then beat TCU we would get to play Georgia or OSU and it would be real ugly.

be happy with what we got and will get—/a middling bowl game we can win

Next year does look promising. Sort of like A&M going in to this year. Will we concede we have a better coach and qb this year?

Sark, season 2:

Think I was optimistic and picked a 9-3 finish.

Despite incredible frustration with the loss of several winnable games...

I have no choice but to accept an 8-4 record with a DELICIOUS & EPIC 49-0 BEATDOWN of ou!!! :hookem:

ou is 6-5 and plays tech at Lubbutocks Sat. Both are desperate for a win.

Pulling for tceh... as you know, NOTHING good comes from an ou win!

Agree. Except TCU. Never felt we were in a position to win that one and the final scoreline was closer than the reality of the game. Defense was good enough to win, offense was never gonna score. Though I think we beat them if we get another shot thanks to our friends in Lawrence, KS.

Big improvement but a disappointment as well. Every game was exceedingly winnable or had leads. Here’s hoping Quinn improves and gets his mojo back so Arch can redshirt and not be thrown into the fire immediately. Keep the recruiting strong and MAYBE Bijan comes back?? A boy can dream.
We are all Jayhawks today. Rock Chalk.

Also credit to defense. Worlds of improvement the last 5 games and something seemed to finally click. Very proud of that group.
Seeing this emerging O line in person yesterday was very promising. DJ Campbell got Ewers sacked but as game went on, he was rolling people on the right side. That group will be a real force next year. That was a solid Baylor front and we just rolled them in the second half.
Would love another shot at TCU but we likely get a solid bowl opponent if not.

Rock Chalk!!!

Not making the Big 12 championship is a disappointment and an underachievement. Not by a lot mind you. And that doesn’t mean we are not trending in a positive direction, potentially very positive. Top to bottom the conference is solid, but it lacks star power as compared to last year. Defenses are ranked higher but nowhere as good creating negative plays as last years teams were.

We got a break here or there this year that we didn’t last year. Lots of unsung heroes on this team. The defense plays as a team. And I’ll use as an example our first TFL yesterday. Mo Blackwell takes out two, the only two, blockers causing the RB to flatten out paving the way for the OLB to make easy play. So easy, my old, fatass has a shot to make it. Last year, internet dipshits would rail on the ILB for not getting there when the blitzing DB either runs right upfield or just does nothing - OSU, KU.

We’ve had some decent discussion on tackling and yesterday may have been our best showing. From a statistical standpoint we’re not that much different than last season and we’ve discussed populating the ball. And I’d say that last seasons Big 12 RBs/offenses were better so that more difficult. What I’m not sure has been discussed has been gap integrity and its impact on tackling. Damn near everyone is tackling nearer the line of scrimmage this year. Ovie and Thompson have made huge improvements here, but a huge problem last year was the safeties were pathetic I’m run support. And at times, made things worse.

The OL. They didn’t play better than last year but go ahead and tell yourself that if it makes you feel better. They were similar in many respects. The tackles were more consistent in pass pro and probably better in the run game. The guards were not better nor were they as consistent. I expect next year to be an improvement from a production and consistency standpoint. They finished reasonably strong last year in spite of the QBs and RBs being banged up or out.

Im a Jordan Whitt advocate. We didn’t use him enough. How much will his effort be missed? His lack of usage at times probably cost us Tech and OSU.

On the QB deal, Sark was locked on QE. I do believe that growing pains this year were sorta predetermined from the outset. I’m now Card guy (as he’s the underdog) and feel that Sark has not managed him properly. And I’m not even talking subbing him for QE in certain games.

Ultimately, keep the recruiting train rolling, improve upon our intermediate passing game (start here and it’ll better open up the deep shots), and keep those defenders playing hard. It all starts upfront on defense. Pressure, pressure and more pressure.
