Man, these Rangers are fun to watch this season...time to make it 7 and capture the ever elusive Silver Boot this weekend...

I agree, it's all relative. Domination in the minds of aggy & Rangers fans is .500 ball and a win over a rival.

eflow,

agreed. my point is they certainly aren't the Texas of baseball. a very solid franchise with a good run the last 10 years but hardly anything that justifies turning your nose up at others like they smell bad.

Even techsters can rightly look down on Baylor.

But I disagree with the proposition that the 'stros:NL Central isn't similar to Texas/OU:Big 12, at least for the period between 1997 and 2005. During that time the 'stros won 4 (1 tie) central titles, won the WC twice, and a pennant. Meanwhile the the 'cards won 6 division titles (1 tie), 2 pennants and a title. Aside from the 'stros not winning that title in '05 (even the year is similar), the similarity is pretty strong.

Heck, if we're comparing division titles to Big XII titles, the Astros outperformed Texas over the same period.

over 10 years. if you want to put yourself in the category of the baseball king franchises based on 10 years then go for it.

I was merely commenting on how low aggy & Ranger fans set the bar, since success the way we think of it is a kind of a foreign idea to them.

Anything less than the playoffs is a failure for the Astros/Longhorns.

A series win over the Astros/Longhorns is a success for Ranger fans/aggy.

I don't see all the fuss because the Rangers are my second favorite team and I want them to do well.

The Astros have exactly the same number of World Series titles as the Rangers do.

Zero.

But to hear some Astros' fans talk, you'd think Houston has as many WS titles as the Yankees. The chest-thumping is ridiculous.

I don't give a rat's *** about the Silver Boot itself. But I do enjoy when the Rangers beat the Astros. As someone who grew up in the Metroplex and had to wait for Hoffheinz to croak before we could get a major league baseball team, I'd like to see the Astros go 0-162. Sadly, I know that won't happen.
