5 Day Trip - Boston or NY

Going to take a trip this summer with our two young adult sons (21 & 19 y.o.) and thinking of either Boston or NY City. Some of us have been to Boston, some to NYC, but none of us have been to both. We like to eat good food (both fancy stuff and good comfort/locals food), drink good beer (including the 19 y.o. when the restaurants will let him drink), want to see a baseball game or two, do some touristy stuff. Had a great time doing this last summer in Chicago (without the 21 y.o. who was in Iraq). If you had to pick one, which would you pick and why?

I've never been to Boston so take this for what it is worth

baseball - NY - a chance to go to Yankees stadium before they tear it down would be great. If you really like baseball a trip to Shea gives a slight nod to NY

Food - NY but that is only because I love deli and chinese a little more than my desire to have Boston's seafood. Plus the street food in NY is awesome. I'm talking my family to NY will be the 7 year olds first trip and all he can think about is the food

Things to do - Boston - I've never been to Boston so I give Boston the edge as there are more things I haven't done there

Either will be great

Well, I love Boston, but for what you're looking for, I think NYC is the better choice. Outside of some historical spots, NYC pretty much has everything Boston has to offer -- in spades. Twice as many pro baseball teams, at least twice as many food options (if not 5X more), fantastic bars, great shopping, and plenty of history, too. Boston just seems really "small" in comparison. Now, I don't eat seafood, so I can't compare the two on that front, but NYC has South Street Seaport to offer as an alternative to Boston's Faneuil Hall (sp?), so I'm not even sure seafood is all that big a differentiator.

Y'all are kinda confirming my thoughts on the subject. Wife and one kid want Boston, me and the other want NY. We may compromise and go back to Chicago, which everyone loves, if the Cubs are in town the week we are free to go.

Why not go to Boston AND New York? It's not like it's a long flight. I've done it -- a few days in each city over the course of a week, and it was a great vacation.

I love Chicago, but Boston and NYC are totally different. (Not better, but definitely different.)

If you're gonna be in the area, might as well do both. The cities are only a 1 hour flight or 3 hour train ride away. 3 days in NYC and 2 in Boston are plentiful to get a feel for each city and what they have to offer. You'll always have a chance to return later and expand.

Yeah, if we do both cities we'll probably do the train. I took the train from DC to NY earlier this year and it was kinda cool.
