Can anyone recommend a flat panel TV in the 42" range? Plasma or LCD? Will be used primarily for cable TV and watching a lot of sports. Thanks

Yes, a 42" Panasonic Plasma is hard to beat for the money. Several choices well under $900. Got one from B&H around Christmas, great set, great price, no problems whatsoever.

I just got out of a class (Argentine sisters, 25 & 27, taking an English class

) where the married older sister said that she just bought a 32" Plasma TV and so now she is looking to get rid of the 21" TV that she and her husband have been using.

She bought the thing for about US$950 (tax included) and with her special Banco Francés credit card, she pay for it over 36 months
(@ AR$100/mo).

Almost a thousand dollars, it's going to take 3 years to pay off, and it's only a 32" Plasma. The world of electronics down in Argentina is significantly different than it is in the States.

I bought the 42" Panasonic X1 last wednesday from Amazon for $479 total. No tax, free shipping. I received it this past Friday afternoon. Dell lowered their price on this tv and Amazon dropped theirs to match it. The deals only lasted a few hours.

My mount comes in tomorrow and it's going on the wall in the bedroom.

Thanks for the info. Question: Is there much of a difference in picture quality between 720 and 1080 if you are only using the set to watch cable TV?

Are plasmas still considered unreliable and expensive, or rather prohibitively expensive to repair? I was told some major component goes out every few years, then you won't want to repair it. Is LCD the way to go?

According to write-ups there is no burn in on plasmas like there used to be so that is not an issue. Supposedly this set has a 100,000 hour lifespan. That is quite the contrast from the past as well. Is this what you mean?

OK, maybe they are about the same in reliability now, but what are the advantages of one over the other? Not looking yet, but may in a year or two, or whenever the current tv craters during a Horns game and a brick suddenly appears inside it.

Anyone have a set w/ specs. that are "Native 1080p"?

I'm eyeing 2 sets -

1 specified as "Native 1080p"
1 specified as "1080p, 720p, 480p". (same manuf'r).

Does a set specified w/ "Native 1080p" somehow translate a lower resolution to fit into 1080p (like 'downconvert'), or something? If so, does the picture quality suffer?

What the hell is "Native 1080p"? I can't imagine that it only displays a 1080p source. If it did, then, at present, you'd only be able to use it for BlueRay.

Looks very nice. Curious, cause I know how long jobs like that take me, how long did you spend getting the outlets moved, etc?
