that is 4 of 29 (13.8%) from the field for Hamilton and Brown vs OU including 1 of 9 from behind the arc...a ton of really bad shots!!!

The young guys are trying to create their own shots due to a lack of a true point guard. Thus they aren't getting great looks. They are also forcing shots because they are trying to help out the team due to a lack of scoring from the inside. They are tyring to make up for the lack of inside play instead of playing within the offense. Team just has too many holes this year. No true point guard. No great inside play. Horrible free throw shooting. You can't have that many problems and be a great team.

His one assist came in his first couple of minutes on a nice drive to the baseline and feed to a cutting Johnson. That was a beautiful play. His one three pointer came on a play in which the guard started to penetrate, kicked it out for a catch and shoot. Pretty much every other time Hamilton got the ball, he put it on the floor and bad stuff happened.

Hamilton CAN be a great player. He's a great catch and shoot threat, having a nice stroke, the height to get his shot off easily, and the confidence in his shot. He's very good at driving and creating defensive breakdowns by drawing defenders to him. Those are very good qualities in a wing.

On the other hand, he just doesn't look for the open man and is way too inclined to shoot no matter the situation. When he takes it on the perimeter, dribbles and moves, his outside accuracy goes way down.

He's a great talent; there's no doubt about that. He just isn't utilizing his skills in the proper fashion yet.

Well, as one who has argued for more playing time for Hamilton and Brown, I'll have to eat crow and admit that they didn't produce the offensive spark that I'd hoped for.

But, I will continue to advocate that we balance the guard line ups.

1. Start Hamilton along side Balbay. Doge is great at penetrating an kicking the ball out. I also think Dex would benefit from the option to kick out to Hamilton.

2. Then, rotate Brown and Mason in at the same time. You trade a pair of good defender / good shooter for another.

At this point, I think we have to try something different. Right now, that's the best that I can come up with.

Hamilton is getting a bit of a bad rap on his willingness to dish the ball. Of our two guards, Justin Mason averages .088 assists per minute, Avery Bradley averages .081 assists per minute, and Hamilton averages .088 assists per minute. J'Covan Brown is at .10 assists per minute, but it's not a totally fair comparison because he plays a lot of point also. By comparison, Dogus is at .19 assists per minute. (All stats from Texassports.com) Not to say that he doesn't force shots, etc., but it's a lot better than people's selective memories.

Thing that boggles me most about Hamilton (other than his lack of rudimentary comprehension of the game of basketball and all...) is that I don't know if I've ever seen a worse finisher at the rim. Guy is 6'7", plays like 6'0", is weak as HELL, and tries to make every shot super complicated instead of just laying off the backboard or dunking it.
