4-8 / 14-10 is NOT our standard

Gail is and has been a FAILURE. She was a mistake and we need to move on. We pay this woman way too much to be consistently below average. The program has regressed under her "leadership"

I want her gone.

Goestenkors has made Texas a mockery in WBB. Now that she has the Horns back on the "W" column, the sunshine pumpers are expecting a Top 25 ranking and an automatic invitation to the NCAA Tournament!

If Goestenkors was so "GREAT", Texas would have extended her contract already.

txex86, I was aware of that. And given the discussions about contract length over the past month, figured it went without saying. I was hoping that it would put at least that component of the crap from certain people to rest...or at least encourage them to go look at the contract issues that are a matter of public record.

Nothing pleases me more that Texas will not extend this coach's contract for the CRAP she's put on the floor.

IMO, it would have been premature in ANY set of circumstances for the Regents to have even contemplated an extension. In the best of situations, there is still a series of uncertainties that play into the events related to the contractual bonus structure, and if I were under contract with the structure that exists with Goestenkors, I would want the Conference picture to be more settled rather than have to amend any extended contract...and anyone that looks at the November actions taken by the Regents *should* understand why.

mb....you are assuming some sort of intelligence that posters "should" have, surely you know by now that such is clearly NOT the case...the sheer lunacy of some of the posts is just SAD.....

The Women's AD has an issue with dismissing coaches who do not produce at a championship level. Under no standard is the women's basketball program performing at a championship level so what happens at the end of the season will be interesting.

BBV, Its actually not that far fetched. As the radio team stated at the end of their show, if the team is able to gather some momentum they could still finish as high as 4th. To keep our tournament hopes, we can only afford one more loss. So lets save that for when we go to Waco

Why do we not really run plays for our Post Players anymore.
What happen to the High - Low play they use too run.
Also I noticed on Texas Sports, that the attendances was 3071.
Thats not true! It may have been 984 Fans at that game.

I thought the 3,000+ attendance was too good to be true. Video on TexasSports supports your observations Dino.

I had season tickets for about 16 years. My husband decided last year that he was no longer interested in going, so I dropped his season ticket. This year I dropped mine. My mother had an extra and I thought I could use it. I went to one game. They lost. And I won't go to another. Not just because they lost, but because I'm just not interested anymore. There are no more after-the-game Burnt Orange Room Q&As with the team and coach, so I didn't really feel any connection to the girls. I've always hated the way that the coaches, during time outs, gathered together to discuss things away from the players. Uh, they are the ones playing - you can't include them even if they sit quietly?

I know we are just two fans, but apparently not the only two.

I really miss the post-game Q&A’s for foundation members. I thought it was a huge mistake to eliminate those when it was first announced. I let my opinion be pretty clearly known too…..shows how much weight my opinion carries. I still think that is a mistake. I’m not sure that anyone who didn’t attend those on a regular basis could completely understand the impact. There was benefit to the fans, there was benefit to the players who got to see a group of committed fans who were there to support them even when things went poorly, it was good for the coaches to be able to meet with and address the questions and concerns of the foundation members and boosters, and there was a huge benefit to the young women and little girls who were growing up as Longhorn fans, with Longhorn players as role models….I could rattle on for a long time, and have on many occasions, but to me that is still a huge loss for the program. That room used to be packed with foundation members. Now when they open it up to everyone it seems to be mostly just players families.

I don’t think that 3,000 attendance figure was far off. I thought when I was there that it would be around 3,000. The problem is that even if that is true that number is still way too low. Sure, if they won a bunch of games people would come back. But, there are still two problems…..First they have lost the support of many true fans. People who showed up, cheered and gave support no matter what, no matter when. That ties into the post-game Q&A issues. Practices are now closed. It is much more difficult to feel a connection to the team…..Second, I have thought for 20+ years that the marketing for the program was exceptionally poor. I haven’t seen any change in that regard. If there is ever a time when the majority of viewers can see the LHN it will help on both counts. But, there are other opportunities. Texas Tech is in no better shape as a program than Texas. They are in a smaller market. But, somehow they still have good attendance figures. This is an issue that simply has to be addressed.

I’ve got no problem with the coaches huddle during time outs. I like that there is discussion and everyone has some input, then they come back to the team with a single message. What concerns me is that during that time there is no one on the team talking up the other players. Ever. I would really like to see them take some ownership of the situation rather than just sit and wait. Ideally you would have team leaders who would address the group. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. It could also be an opportunity for the players who are not able to play to encourage, prod, or make observations. Heck, tell a joke. Make fun of a player on the other team. Something. I know that with a short bench the players coming out of the game are often worn out. But, then it is time for someone else to step up. I don’t know if I have ever seen a group that appeared to be so quiet among themselves.

I have no questions about Coach G’s ability to coach basketball. I don’t have concerns about her ability to recruit. I know some disagree with me, but I’m not going to get into those discussions right now. I understand that while not excuses the unusual magnitude of injuries and personal issues have had a clear impact. I still believe that Texas can win with Coach G, and I hope that happens. I am concerned that a string of less than stellar seasons could put the program in a position where a change is needed just for the sake of change. I don’t believe that we are there yet. But the attendance issues, fan support, marketing, and ability of fans to connect with the team and program has to be addressed or that day will be on us sooner rather than later.

count me as one who gave up season tickets...and while some of my decision not to renew when my PSL was up was because of distance (I moved in the middle of the PSL and was driving in for the last two years of the seats), I was also dissatisfied with changes that had been made.

One of the biggest changes WAS the post-game stuff being dropped. And while some of the explanation on the limits when they tried to bring it back made sense (the additional time on a weeknight), the reality was the change made for the loss of connection. Factor in not being satisfied with what I was seeing on the court and I just could not justify the renewal. Last season, I saw more games on the road than I did in the Erwin Center- this year I have seen none, either home or away.

As to attendance counts...they likely report all tickets sold/given away as opposed to actual turnstile count. Most events count that way...and there are probably a lot of Foundation donors that simply aren't going. I know of at least one person who has four seats but does not attend regularly- I am sure that is not the only example that could be found like that.

outlookdude's diatribe (and major excuses) is a major example of wanting something SO BAD. Pot calling the kettle black. goestenkors is NOT the only coach in America. She was given a chance and she majorly blew it. Texas deserves better and to continue clinging hope to this "has been" is not a good thing for the University, players and fans.
