Tackle or TE?

Interesting recruiting nugget. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but don't Tackles make more $ in the league than TEs?

other data shows OT as the highest paid of the OL.

other articles manipulate the numbers differently but the gist is the same, TE is at the low end of average NFL salaries.

That kid doesn't understand the unique opportunity he has at Texas. By that I mean this fanbase is starved for another solid dual-TE to appreciate. Scaife, Thomas, Finley, then relatively nothing to speak of since 2006. We had a special appreciation for those guys listed above when they played. And now we realize even more how special they were to our offense. Come on Ship, fill the void and become special to us. He may be liked at LSU, but succeeding here at TE and continuing the Shipley tradition, legendary stuff.

The mad hatter will hold off on the "we have plans for you on the interior line" conversation until the ink dries. If we want him to play tackle, so does LSU.LSU will have plenty of pass catching tight ends who could not be mistaken for tackles. Unless this kid wants to come in on goal line and short yardage situations.

Rivals lists him at 6'5", 260. Had offers from LSU and UCLA.

Yikes, I didn't see the size of this kid. 6'5, 260 at 17 is HUGE for a TE. And in the next 3 years he should grow and add a bunch of size from lifting. He wants to play TE he'd have to lose some serious body fat to compensate for his muscle addition. I don't recall many stud college receiving TE's weighing over 250 or so. And switching from OT to be mostly a blocking TE is career suicide. Just recruit the kid as a TE and see what he does. Let his play decide if he forces himself back to the OT. TE's get plenty of blocking instruction with the OL. And few frosh OL are asked to play much. Let him feel it out his first year and then sit down with him if he needs to switch back. I don't see the issue with that.

I agree Brad -- doesn't seem like the kid's future is at TE, but give him the opportunity. Les Miles is just selling him some black magic
