What Orangeblood said.

I would probably go the KK.

St. John's is far and away the worst at-large team in the field. The only justification for St. John's getting a bid is the committee's affirmative action crap for northern teams. If we lose to them, we might as well lose to Sam Houston the next day, too.

if we win, we would have the second game on saturday. first game will be late morning, early afternoon with the 2 losers playing each other and the winners playing after that game.

Game times at Rice last year were:
Friday
2:00pm
6:00pm

Saturday
2:00pm (loser's bracket)
6:00pm (winner's bracket)

Sunday
2:00pm
Championship: 6:00pm

Monday (if necessary)
6:00pm

I have seen St. Johns play a few times this year. While I normally do not agree with the philosphy of not throwing your best game one, against St. Johns Texas could throw a Tuesday starter and shut them down. Seriously, they looked like an ok High School team. They were missing easy pop-ups to the out field and making terrible throws. And this was just a few weeks ago against Notre Dame. Actually both teams looked like crap.

I'll be there...does hornfans plan to meet somewhere before our first game.

I know where to park at Reckling if I'm umpiring a game, but something tells me they won't let us tailgate there...

With regard to the starting pitcher, Augie said something pregame yesterday about possibly starting Kenn Kasparek in the first game of regionals, but he was also talking like he expected to host. So playing at Reckling may change his plans, but we'll see.

Regardless of the Friday pitcher, I think you absolutely have to throw Ruffin in Game 2. You're either going for the crucial 2-0 start, or you're trying to avoid elimination. Either way, that is the most critical game.

after thinking about it, i'd go with kk on friday and after we win that game, go with chance and pray for a win then someone will have to come and double dip us.

The 2pm game weather is going to be much more miserable than the 6pm game weather. 2-5 is the heat of the day. 6-9 is hot, but not the worst.

FYI...
Weather in NYC currently is mostly cloudy and 75 degrees. With the RH and wind figured in, it feels like 75 degrees. Conversely, at Hobby A/P, it's mostly cloudy and 89 degrees. With RH and wind, it feels like 95 degrees. I understand NYC has its share of high humidity, but I imagine UT, Rice and SHSU will not feel it as much as St. Johns.

I know their competition is suspect but did you see those pitching numbers in this morning's paper ?

They have three leftys with great ERA's and they don't walk hardly anyone. You cannot count on an automatic win when facing a team's best pitcher. Even lower seeded teams have at least one really good pitcher and can give the top seed fits. I have seen it happen right here at the Disch before so I know better.

Either way I am all for saving Ruffin for game 2.

Jesus H. Christ. This team cannot afford to look past anybody. The Sinton Pirates would lay a SBF down on this team if we started kicking the ball around as we're prone to do.
