Whats the deal with Nederland DT DeShawn Washington? I thought he was coming to the 2nd Jr. Day? BTW, I saw him Tues wearing a Texas Tech shirt. That's weak.

He is a big boy and his speed is very impressive for his size. He's gonna be a player for someone.

Aces,

With all due respect to Mr Washington, who was the last player out of Nederland to make an impact in NCAA football?

Anyone since Leon Fuller started and was captain at Alabama?

Well with "all due respect" to you, I really don't see how Nederland HS past history has anything to do with one particular player. I also remember a certain Nederland player starting at UT a couple years back, Dravannti Johnson (LB).

Tex Ritter is from Nederland and was a great football and track star there in the mid 20s. There are great stories about the duels between Ritter and Sippy Wilbanks from Port Neches (later a member of the Gashouse Gang in St Louis). The Ritter family still lives in Nederland and purchased the old WalMart on Nome-Port Neches Hwy to move their lumberyard into.

OA Phillips is from Orange and played there for Ted Jefferies I believe. Bum would become HC at Nederland in the early 50s, where he came closer than he has at any level to winning a championship when he lost to Coach Bill Ellington and the Garland Owls 3-0 in the rain in 1956. Bum left that year for one year under Bear Bryant at A&M, then to be HC at Jacksonville, Armarillo High, Texas Western (UTEP), then Port Neches in 63 & 64. In 66 he moved to UH, and then joined Sid Gilman with the Chargers. Later bounced around as an assistant at places with HCs from Nederalnd - including SMU, Oklahome State, and I believe a stint at Kansas State. Bum umknowingly had a great hand in helping DKR land Steve Wooster, even though Bum really disliked our Horns.

A few more offers made. No commitments. Per Rivals, 45 offers out now.

That is equal to the total offers made for the recently filled 2013 class. The change in offering strategy has kicked in. Offer early and often to get your foot in the door so a recruit can't say, "Where was the love back at the beginning?".

Heard on radio today that Alabama and LSU have offered an 8th grader. Where will it end?

Heard Kiffin just made an offer fresh out of the Vg...
