A new fossil primate has been discovered in Saudi Arabia - Saadanius hijazensis. Dated to about 29 million years bp it is thought to be close to the common ancestor between Old World monkeys and the ape/human lineage.

That's interesting because my understanding was that the human lineage was pretty much all in Africa from time immemorial to the migration out of Africa. On the other hand, how old is the Red Sea?

Superb! TheThe Link site's goal states:
"The goal of the PALEOMAP Project is to illustrate the plate tectonic development of the ocean basins and continents, as well as the changing distribution of land and sea during the past 1100 million years."
