Ahh good times. The 95 season was the start of the return of Texas football, with the first win in 4-5 years against the Ags, and only the second in 10-12 years or so. Won the last SWC title on the Aggs own field, and off to the Sugar Bowl, where Texas was promptly blown out by Va Tech.

You forgot Ron McKelvey.

I was just out of law school and living in San Antonio at the time and ESPN2 which was relatively new was not available on the cable package I had back then. I went to a watch party for the San Antonio Texas Exes at a hotel sports bar and with the game not starting until something like 10:30 or 11 at night it was a pretty wild scene. That was also my first year as a season ticket holder. Such a fantastic year that included the win over Virginia on the last play, Richard Walton's hero turn on Thanksgiving night as he started for an injured James Brown, then Brown on one leg beating aggy at their house to win the last SWC title. Good times!

I really liked the 1995 season. One of my favorites actually even though we weren’t a great team we were a good one. I started to realize that Mackovic had really brought in some talent & you knew RW was the real deal. That win over aggy will always go down as one of my all time favorites. I knew the tide was about to turn in the series again, and it did.

And it did. I remember seeing a shirt on an Aggy at Kyle field in 95, with the W-L record for the last 10 years or so. It was win win win, reload, win, win, etc.

From 95 to the end of the series in 2011 I believe, so 16 years (?), Texas only lost 4 of those, so 12-4.

It was a fun year. There wasn't a national spotlight on Texas, after years of plidding around in the back half of the SWC, so the season could be enjoyed for what it was, without worrying about national implications. The team was tough and scrappy, with some great comeback wins.

It was the end of an era, with the end of the SWC, and it was fantastic to close the conference down as SWC Champions forever.

The first home game that year was against a Johnny Majors coached Pitt team and I remember it was crazy hot and Texas came back late to win. There were some lows like getting blown out in South Bend and tying an awful OU team in Dallas but that season had a ton of great moments. One of my favorite memories is the game against Tech that was just dominated by the Horns and Tony Brackens absolutely blowing up the Tech kicker on a fake FG attempt. You could hear the hit in the stands on the west side and the whole crowd went nuts after it. I went to the Sugar Bowl and Texas was actually up 10-7 at the half but just never seemed to be in the game in the second half, disappointing end to great year. SWC Champions Forever.

No one really expected us to hang with ND in 1995, but it really set the stage for what we "could" be given the chance. The only reasons it turned into a blowout were turnovers and special teams miscues. Erase mistakes where you hurt yourself, and Texas played pretty well against the Domers.

I'm more upset about the OU tie that year. We had them on the ropes early, and then killed ourselves over the final three quarters to give the game away to a freshman QB and weak defense. Probably not as worse for the standings as the OT loss to John Blake the following year, but at least we won the conference again.

I remember watching that game at my boss’s house. Everyone said, that kid is special. Wow was that true.

I believe Texas got up to a 21-0 lead against OU, then let it slip away. Memory tells me that Mavok went for it on 4th down when the score was tied at 24 instead of kicking a FG, and then the game ended as a tie.

The Brackens hit I believe was on the punter after a fake punt, and he was staggering around after it. Fun at the time, though now we know things like that lead to permanent brain injuries. Texas had had a lot of trouble with Tech during the early 90's so that win against them, and by how large of a margin it was, was a big win.

And ahh yes, Ron McKelvey, good times. Wasn't he playing under an assumed name or such and was 26 years old?
