2023 Countdown Clock to Season Opener

Assuming the season opener is on Saturday, Sept 2 at 6 pm, we have 106 days and 23+ hours till kickoff. Since players wear “0” nowadays, we should show players wearing “0” on game day (Saturday) or the Friday before game day? Depending on the response, the clock can be set appropriately. The way I have it shown below, the clock will show 0 days, x hours, y minutes, and z seconds on game day. Is this what we want?

I always thought the countdown should reflect the number of days until game day (game day being 0). In other words, not accounting for the hours until game time.

On game day I can change the timer to count down hours/minutes/seconds to game time, but leading up to that day it would just count the days.

So for example: Midnight on Friday, September 1st would roll to 1 on the countdown timer — meaning 1 day (ie, the current day) remaining until game day which is 9/2. On Sept 2 it changes to a game time countdown.

Are we saying the same thing @mchammer?

Sort of. If the game is at 6 or 7 pm, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. Anyway, if you wanted to do it your way, make sure the clock is set to 12:01 am Saturday morning, not midnight Friday.

Most anxious for Sark III season!!

I'll be the smartass here (as I frequently am).... I could not remember a player wearing #106.... so, I did not bother to search for one on Al Gore's Internet.

However, I'll wait for day 99 and post a photo of Steve "Bam Bam" McMichael proudly wearing that #... and go with your thread!

We will have a dedicated thread for the 2023 Countdown. This thread is about the clock itself.

I set the countdown timer to 12:00 AM Saturday, September 2. (Setting it to 12:01 AM gives us the same number of days, so for our purposes it is the same thing but off by a minute.)

On Sept 2 (game day, or day zero) I will reset the timer to count down the hours/minutes until game time. *

* At this point someone will politely inform me of my months-long error and I will once again curse the whole countdown enterprise as being an intractable conundrum for which there is no joyful solution vis-à-vis game day countdowns and game time countdowns (not entirely unlike the obstinate disconnect between Newtonian physics and quantum theory, if i may draw such a spicy comparison). We will probably debate it briefly (again), I’ll pledge to really get it right next year, and then we’ll change the subject because football will be back (hooray!) and nobody cares about the stupid countdown at this point anymore. This is the Hornfans way.

Can we live with this?

This year you can point to this thread when responding to countdown clock criticism in the actual countdown thread. Sort of like plausible deniability.

I agree. This Thursday, May 25, 2023, is 14 weeks and 2 days until September 2, 2023. That totals 100 days. If we start the countdown by posting 100 days this Thursday, then Saturday, September 2, 2023, will show as "0" days until game day. That is correct. Please take the time clock to game day kick-off out of the equation.

I am sure glad February is not in our countdown! Is it Leap "0" or Not Leap "0"? Always something to be thankful about!

Day 0 = Sept 2, 2023
