2021 Recruiting - Football

Here is Mike Roach/247 on where we stand with a few of the top guys

JoJo Earle - was originally very high on Texas, and sources near him at the time indicated he could be close to a commitment. Earle decided to re-evaluate things when Texas brought in a new offensive staff, and now schools like LSU, ou and Alabama are in the running for him. Texas is trying to get back in Earle’s good graces, but the Longhorns need to get him on campus this spring.

Camar Wheaton - extremely quiet and doesn’t speak with the media much, but the buzz around his recruitment surrounds ou, Alabama, LSU, SMU and Texas. Sources near Wheaton’s recruitment indicated he might want to stay close to home, but nobody has a clear handle on where Wheaton appears to be heading.

Savion Byrd - looked like a guy that Texas could run way out in front for following the commitment of his high school teammate Ja’Quinden Jackson, but things are changing rapidly in his recruitment. While Texas is still in the picture, SMU and LSU are closing ground, and there’s talk that SMU might even hold the lead at this point. Former Texas staffer Ra’Shaad Samples is now working for the Mustangs, and his ties to Duncanville are very strong with his father as head coach.

LJ Johnson - Longhorns are in the hunt early for Johnson, and they sit near the top of his list. They’ll have to fight off programs like Georgia, ou, Stanford, LSU and aggy.

Donovan Jackson - made his commitment to tOSU back in Jan despite heavy attention from Alabama, aggy, Texas, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford and ou. While other schools will continue to push to flip him, Jackson is firm in his commitment. He has family in the Ohio area, and his mother even carried a Buckeye in her purse before Jackson ever had an offer.

You beat me to it, this morning!

Here is the full 247 piece, for anyone interested, with a longer list of key recruits...

Where Texas stands with the Top 10 prospects in Texas

Another Arizona OL Bram Walden will visit in the spring.
"After (USC) we'll be heading to Texas to check out both Texas and (aggy). Coach (Tom) Herman is a great dude and I love that program. They have been making me feel like a priority for a while.....
The Top247 offensive lineman was dominant during the one-on-one session at the Under Armour camp, flashing the reaction speed that makes him such a tough match up even for the quickest edge rushers. Walden is a tough blocker who keeps defenders off him and shows great bend at the point of attack to hold his ground. He punched his ticket to the Under Armour All-America Game with his performance. "
Will be interesting to see if either he or Miller want to commit before any of the Texas OLs.

5-star RB TreVeyon Henderson --
“I scheduled a couple officials already,” he said. “I’ll take some more unofficial visits too. The visits to Ohio State and Clemson are unofficial. Oklahoma is an official visit. Texas, Michigan, and LSU are going to get official visits too. The official visit to Texas is at the end of April (the 24th), Michigan is June 19th, and LSU will be in early May.

This kid is a beast.

Sounds like we can scratch Latrell McCutchin off the list. He is talking to an ou guy here. I think we offered him about 2 weeks after Alabama did --

"I just don’t like them. A lot of people just think we grew up loving Texas. It’s not really like that out here. In my recruitment—I can’t really speak for anybody else—but I feel like Texas was sleeping on me. I mean I live 20 minutes away from the school, and I had an OU offer, an Alabama offer. I had all these different offers before I even got the UT offer. And I camped up there. I went and visited like five weeks in a row. So with me, UT, they don’t really have a shot with me. Like, that’s dead. They can take their offer back to tell you truth."

His parents dont like us either
Seems like our coaches sniffed him out...

Eric Nahlin: Need more early evals like this and Jordon Thomas. It gives UT a tremendous advantage.
And speaking of Jordan Thomas, people are already saying he looks like a future 1st round pick -

DE Jordon Thomas of Port Arthur Memorial says he will be committing soon.

Film for Wright - looks good (clocked a 10.8 100m as a sophomore)
Seems like a good time to be hitting Calif

He has good cover skills, his long legs make his speed deceptive he's faster than he appears on film and out runs the coverage when running routes. That he's a two way player is a real bonus!

Super K of TFB now saying McCutchin may flip to ou soon.
So there you go
Gonna be sad for some boys bout the time they start ridin sooner....we flip it and UT hot while ou not...they stuck in norman and the sign on the portal down south i35 say closed on it.
