2021 Recruiting - Football

Time to go silently through the night and find another tight end. Then let this commitment die from lack of attention.

A tight end with a bad wheel who plays the yes, then not sure, game is not anything to create consternation over. Especially one that is hanging with the Baker jerk.
If a recruit is posting pictures with Flaker Mayfold, that offering school probably wants to take a large step back. Rumor is on some fan sites that Texas gave notice that they would have to see results on the field going forward to confirm the offer.

Good question. The kid has almost 60 offers, is from Georgia, and is committed to UGA. Help me understand what Texas gains by offering.

I would say it is being done probably just to give the kid something else to consider, especially if we wind up winning 10 or 11 games next year as many on this board (including myself) are predicting. I could easily see Texas cracking a Top 5 list for some of these out of state recruits if we win the conference next season.

It is like the newest new car dealer offering to sell Enterprise cars at breakeven or lower - name recognition. Outside of Texas, oklahoma and evidently Arizona and SoCal, schools who recruit Texas (the State of) heavily bad mouth Texas basically saying Texas only wants you because they cannot recruit their own state so you are the second choice at best. Strong recruited the Southeast heavily and most of those who bit and signed with Texas never made it. Herman just trying to keep the name circulating at a very low cost.

Brown became lazy which only energized the "we are Texas so we are better than you so lay down and let's get this game over", and Strong recruited strong football skills, but those kids had playing time issues and little academic skills.

Dont forget we have new coaches who had pre-existing relationships with many of these players
It will be interesting to see how that develops so far down the line for some of these more desirable guys. Surely just saying, "Hi again, I am at Texas now" is not quite sufficient.

I guess each school has to crack the top five list to have a chance, but there is always only one school that gets the recruit. At least initially.

I say this is recruiting related

Wow, kind of an indictment of Orlando's scheme. This should definitely be posted in the Texas OC and DC thread.

Sounds like Ash should produce better results for the defense this year. The Alamo Bowl defense of Naivar is a good blueprint for the new base.

I don't remember the game I was watching, but I remember the announcer was talking about Roach and mentioned that he would likely be a DT in the NFL. My first thought was, why is he a DE for Texas if he is going to be a DT on the next level.

That was when I realized that our scheme was all wrong for the talent we had in place.

This is how other schools live every season. The state of Ohio does not have enough top shelf players to keep that program rolling. Nor Pennsylvania or Alabama.

He does say he would have liked to play in Ash's scheme

“I would have loved to be in a 4-3. I think it’s a smart move. You have pass rushers out there, Ta’Quon Graham, Marqez Bimage, Joe Ossai — guys that can get after the quarterback. You have to use those guys. That was the biggest thing that we got caught up in, not using our weapons to our full advantage. Now they brought in a new staff, giving those guys the opportunity to rush the passer and show what they have.”

Something from the Humidor on all the CB offers --

Speed and coverage is the name of the game. Even before the Overshown move became official we were hearing rumblings of how important running and coverage ability was. I had a feeling things would become more noticeable when they started offering kids and you can see it in the offers (I'll post more about that tomorrow).

Basically, they're not looking for big corners, they're looking for cover corners. They still want length but they're not going to sacrifice movement skills for it. Reference Isaiah Dunson from the last cycle who this staff backed off of. Big corners will become safeties, big safeties will become linebackers.

If one puts so much stock in announcers, one has to wonder why they are not coaches nor directors of player personnel.

A little clarity. The announcers were talking about this in reference to NFL scouts, and they were quoting the scouts. Do you feel better now?

It wasn't what the announcers said, it was what I saw once they brought it to my attention. Our DEs that we were trying to rush the passer with were all DTs. all you had to do was just watch last year and it becomes pretty evident. Texas had zero speed off the edge. It was like trying to race a tractor in Nascar.

All of our best defensive linemen were natural DTs playing out of position. To be honest, if it wasn't for moving Ossai to DE, we would have the same issue next year. We need some young DEs to step up big time. If I were the coaching I'd fill that last scholarship with a DE from the transfer portal. It's our most needed position.

Not particularly.

Texas is definitely beyond the days when a Flex LB like Breckyn Hager having to play a 4i technique because Texas had no one better. Progress is being made despite the impatient bulletin board fans.

Getting better? Maybe, but we have opened up a new issue. We are switching now to a 4 man front and we don't really have DEs to man 2 of those spots. It seems we aren't beyond those days since we just moved our best linebacker to DE. Ossai is by far our most valuable player. We literally have 3 more dlinemen that qualify to play DE in a 4 man front. Myron Warren, Jacoby Jones, and Marcus Bimage. Only Ossai has proven to be an impact player.

As a true freshmen I can see Alfred Collins being a DE and I think by the end of the season he will be the starter. But that is just as a freshmen, his ending spot will probably be DT as he is going to quickly out grow the DE spot. For all I know he might report in August over 300 lbs.

Progress might be getting made, but Tom Herman has 24 months to turn this program around if nothing has changed by the end of 2021 season, he will be gone. CDC has given him everything he needs to succeed, there is no one left to fire except for Herman.

Myron Warren, Jacoby Jones, and Marcus Bimage all say "Hi."

I will call Tom and Chris and let them know they are on a short leash with you. :lmao:

Wow, you are really bad at this, maybe you should switch to posting on the softball thread. Which of those 3 are elite? Which do you think can get the job done against LSU and Oklahoma? Do you remember who we stole Bimage from when Herman was hired, it wasn't LSU, it was U of H. All those guys are good backup players but none of them are starter material, this is why you will likely see them being passed up by Alfred Collins.

You don't have to tell Tom or CDC, they both know the deadline, the BMG have already told them.

My personal deadline is December 15, 2020. By then I will know if we won the conference or not. If the answer is no well then I will have given up on Tom Herman as coach.

I know BMD = Big Money Donors, so are the BMG = Bowel Movement Gimps?

Actually BMG stands for Browning Machine Gun, but it refers to a .50 Cal BMG I'm a bit of a gun enthusiast and well that is one that is on my wish list. What you are looking at below is the Barrett .50 cal BMG retail price $8,310.49

Two years old, but why Bimage plays defensive end.

I'll do you one better here are his 2019 statistics
13 games played
10 solo tackles
2 assisted tackles
12 total tackles
2 tackles for loss
1 sack
1 forced fumble
1 fumble recovery

I'll save you the suspense, Jacoby Jones's numbers are not that good.
Now does that sound like an impact player to you? Last year our dline sucked and he couldn't break the starting rotation. To me that sounds like a guy that should be playing at U of H, but as I said before, we don't have anything better.

But hey, if we start an all squat team, I'm picking him first.

I've been following Texas football since 1977, in that time the one thing I've learned is how much our BMD's will take. 2 year, that is all they will give Herman. If he doesn't produce by then, they will pull the plug and force CDC's hand.
