2021 Recruiting - Football

Realize it's about effort and return. If you have a super talented kid in Texas that wants to go to Texas vs. a slightly better kid in SoCal that is being recruited by everybody, do you put all that effort into the SoCal kid, knowing the chances of return are slim, or just go for the low hanging fruit. There is lots of great talent in the state, and many of those kids want to go to Texas. They should be the priority and then you turn to putting all your effort into the elite athletes and try to win them over.
Problem there is who wants to go to Texas so bad right now to turn down the offers ( $$$) from SEC,tOSU, etc, etc..... ( See Princely this year for example and a number of others we wanted this year and last ).. Gotta throw a wide net and hope some stick.

Not sure I understand. UT capped enrollment 50 years ago, but the state population has tripled since then. Thus the natural overflow to all the other schools
The UT facilities and faculty, let alone funding, has not tripled.

Remember Slick Rick tried adamantly to turn UT into a vocational trade school. Anything to make aTm look better and to hell with the state's flagship school's academic sranding.

5'10"...Seriously after seeing how much better having a big tall WR is across the country....Why would you want 5'10" ? He better run a 4.2 .......

Have you seen how fast he is?

I'm good with throwing a wide net, but it always starts with the in state guys that want to come here. fill your needs and then concentrate on the big fish.

Because there is no good receivers that are short.

IT doesnt think we are still pursuing RB Brandon Campbell (Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated) or S JD Coffey III (Kennedale)

2021 4-star OL Jonah Miller (6’8, 275) from Tucson Salpointe Catholic

From September 1 last year. Did not realize he had visited Texas yet. He was meant to come with Bijan on Bijan's OV which never occurred last fall.

He blocked for Bijan and has had a Texas offer for over a year. A few pictures of him flashing Hook 'Em with Bijan out there.

If only he was a little bigger

Maybe the new basketball coach can use him as a point guard. He can't be any worse at shooting, but he would sure as hell clear out the lane when he drove to the hoop.

Last time I remember us having an OT that big, he chose between us for football and UCLA for basketball, BUT only after we reviewed the $500,000 annuity offered by Nebraska

SPEED KILLS. He ran the shuttle in 4.14 seconds and recorded a 44.3-inch vertical jump. His 40-yard dash time suffered because of his injury, but he recorded the fastest time at Ohio State’s camp in June with a 4.32. But, he'll probably go play for tOSU.

This line of thinking led to Wes Welker (5'8") being underrated at every level...at first. He had a way of proving everyone wrong.

At 6'8" he can put on another 35 lbs. of muscle easily.

Maybe, it depends on his body type, there are lots of guys in the NBA 6'8 that can't put on muscle.

Anyone remember how big Doug Dawson was? I remember going to Oiler practices and seeing him, was a massive human. Same with Leonard Davis who was the only human that looked normal driving around in an F-650 truck.

Dawson wasn't that tall. I think Gene Chilton was a few inches taller than Doug. Ross was tall, and so was Doug's mother.

Are you kidding, Doug was a whole helmet taller than every other Oiler on the practice field including Bruce Matthews and Mike Munchek. He wasn't as tall as Jimbo Elliott, but he was close. I think Elliott was 6'9.

Welker was greatness but you have to wonder about his path had he not ended up in Lubbock. He barely got a late offer from them (Briles was his recruiter). Even then, he was not drafted - signed as an UDFA and then cut. Quite the story. But for creepy Art Briles, he probably would have never had a shot with the NFL.

Submitted for name greatness only
Major was already taken

"Booty under center. Now, Booty splits wide! The ball's thrown deep for Booty; Booty is wide open and yes, he's in the end zone for the score! They'll be keeping in Booty for the extra point. Good hold. It's up, it's good! Yes, it's GOOD!"
