2016 class includes 6 Texans, including #1 Lauren Cox, Forward, (Flower Mound), #5 Joyner Holmes, Forward, (Cedar Hill), #8 Amber Ramirez, Point Guard (San Antonio Helen Wagner), #12 Natalie Chou, Guard (Plano West), Calveion Landrum, Point Guard (La Vega), and #21 Nancy Mulkey, Post (Cypress Woods). Lauren recently was on campus and Joyner and Natalie were at this year’s summer camp. Amber will likely be the top PG in Texas for 2016 and one of the best nationally. Being in San Antonio, I expect the coaches will be able to see quite a bit of her and that she will be able to come to several Horn games.
ESPN’s 2017 20 to Watch class has 5 Texans listed. Alexis Morris, Point Guard (Odom Academy), Kayla Owens, Wing (Langham Creek), Chasity Patterson, Point Guard (North Shore), Kianna Suber, Point Guard (James Earl Rudder), and Jada Williams, Forward (The Colony). Chasity was at this year’s summer camp.
Obviously, our roster numbers are always changing due to injuries and attrition. But, I'd estimate we'll have 3 ships available for 2016.
With Tasia, Brooke, Alyssa, and Lashann all capable of playing PG, I'm not sure we'd be targetting another one for 2016.
Lauren did attend Duke's elite camp this summer, so they are obviously a serious contender for her. But, she is a take no matter what, I'd guess.
I believe Chou has played summer ball with several of her commitments. With her size, would be an interesting prospect if she can shoot from beyond the arc.
Mulkey has unique size/height that makes for a difficult matchup. Glad to hear she attended our summer camp.
One thing this staff has proven is that they know who they want to target, and have been successful in secruing very early verbal commitments.
I agree about the job the staff is doing, Moo. Just a clarification, it was Natalie Chou that attended the summer camp, not Nancy Mulkey. She was at the USA trials, irrc.
Still, have to think the staff is working hard on her and Lauren. I would love to see Nancy come for an unofficial visit.
Re PGs, while Tasia, Brooke, Alyssa, and Lashann are all capable of placing the point, I consider only Brooke to be a true PG. I expect the others are likely to spend more time at the wing (SF, SG) than at the point. Two years after Brooke would seem ideal to bring in the top PG in the state and one of the best in nation.
As for the guards, based on Tasia and Brooke's size, I onl see them as PGs, which is what I believe both have played in high school. Alyssa is supposed to be a great shooter, and is probably capable of playing both guard spots, although that probably depends on her defense, as well.
As I anticipated, it doesn't appear we are in the running for PG Amber Ramirez:

yeah, doesn't look like we are in the running for Amber. Too bad, imo. We are looking pretty solid at PG, though, with the players coming in 2014 and 2015.
Then for 2016-17, only Celina departs. Just not a lot of room for more backcourt players; Natalie Chou would seem to have the size you want at either SG or SF, so I can see her being one of the staff's key recruiting targets for 2016.
have to agree that Natalie Chou has the size, shooting and ballhandling skills to be really good at the wing. She certainly should be a primary target for 2016.
It's a little difficult to keep up with all of the recruit rankings given how many services there are these days. I've tried to compile a list of where some of our current 2014 and '15 commits fall on the various lists. Here's what I've come up with:
